My local Safeway is featuring "English Muffin Bread" this week in their ad.
I've always purchased round, sliced English Muffins. Is the bread just the same but in square slices of a bread loaf?
Just curious. Thanks.

Yes. It's got the same texture, but it's made as a loaf instead of split rounds.

Thanks. That's what I thought. Seems like you get more in a loaf than in a bag of 6 muffins. I'll give it a try as I love English Muffins for breakfast.

I have used this recipe and was happy with the results. For those who are curious:
English Muffin Loaf
2 loaves, 16 slices per loaf
2 packages active dry yeast
6 cups unsifted all-purpose flour
1 Tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups milk
½ cup water
Cornmeal, yellow
Combine 3 cups of the flour, the yeast, sugar, salt and baking soda. Heat liquids until very warm (120º-130ºF). Add to dry mixture, beat well. Stir in remaining 3 cups of flour to make a stiff batter.
Spoon into two 8 ½” x 4 ½” pans that have been greased and sprinkled with cornmeal.
Sprinkle tops with cornmeal. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 45 minutes.
Bake at 400º for 25 minutes. Remove from pans immediately and cool.
To serve: Slice and toast.

Not sure I'd like it as much because I always like that under side of the round English Muffins because it gets crisp when you toast it.
I'd also like to know how it tastes and the consistency as compared to the round ones.

I love English muffin bread for French Toast. To me it has a texture similar to old fashioned homemade bread. I also use it for toast. I don't eat very much bread, so I keep a loaf in my freezer and just peel off as many slices as I need. It freezes very well.

I absolutely love it, Daring Greatly. It is shaped like a regular loaf of bread, as was already mentioned. You can definitely toast it, and to me, it does get crispy in the toaster.
I happen to think that it is a good value too, when you buy it this way. It's routinely sold in the markets in my area. When it is a special somewhere on sale, I will usually pick some up. ![]()
