Re: What do you bring to a pot luck, thanks in advance!

@Hoovermom   I bought chicken wings fresh, not frozen that were huge and already cut at the joints info flats and drummies and they were only $1.99 a pound.

That was a bargain.  My only regret was that I didn't buy more for the freezer.  They are expensive here for take-out too.

@Carmie :  Oh bless your heart....you are an angel for frying 30 pounds of wings.  Now that I think of it DDIL buys the flats and drummies from Costco.  I never knew they had names for the parts LOL.....when she asked me to get those parts I was clueless.  She is a fabulous cook, not me.  Maybe they will go on sale in your area soon for Labor Day.  I can tell from your posts that you are a very good cook.

@Hoovermom   Thanks for your kind words.

I am a simple basic down home cook...nothing fancy.  I come from a cooking family...I had no choice.

I noticed the wings are now $2.19 a lb.  That is still a good price.  I am going to get some more, but thankfully won't been cooking 30 lbs in one day.  I had two huge frying pans going at once and it took me 2 hours....and I couldn't even taste them.  They were rolled in flour, which I can't eat.

I am going do some for myself Asian style.  Enjoy your daughter's cooking.

@arubakathy ...............Is it indoors or out?  I find it very hard to figure out what is a good thing to take to any outdoor potluck/picnic.  Some food will spoil quickly in the heat.

For myself I have noticed that dips are the first to be eaten.  Everyone seems to like them with chips or crackers.  Dips are easy to fix.  I also take pasta salad to potluck.

Don't bring pasta salad, fruit salad, or potato salad.  'Cause that's what most people (at least here) will bring! Woman Embarassed

I'd go with the pizza, pot stickers, fried chicken (spicy!), watermelons cut on the spot, lemon bars, something different!  Or the crock pot bbq recipe I posted in the recent thread.

For work potlucks, where I knew I had access to a microwave, this super easy hot taco dip.  Layer, block of cream cheese, jar of medium salsa, shredded pepper jack cheese and black olives.  Cover with plastic wrap and microwave for 5 minutes.  A bag of tortilla chips.  It's always GONE.  I make it in a quiche pan.  So easy and good.

Brownies are always a hit too.  Kids especially love them.  Also, always gone.

@Hoovermom   @Carmie    Last time we wanted chicken wings at a local place, the menu said "market" price.  I thought what the heck, that's usually lobster.  Haha.  Market price was 29.99 for 18 wings.  We did not order them.
