I made a small batch of chocolate cupcakes for hubby and I to celebrate our birthdays. I couldn't resist using my mom's frosting recipe. It's such a treat 
1/2 cup Crisco
2 t vanilla extract (clear if you have it)
1/8 t salt
4 cups powdered sugar (usually use less)
1/4 cup milk
* I also sometimes add a teaspoon or 2 of almond extract, especially if decorating a white cake.
Beat crisco, vanilla and salt until light and fluffy. On low speed, alternate adding the powdered sugar and milk until blended. Add more milk or sugar if needed for the consistency you want.
Recipe says it will frost 18 cupcakes or a 13.9 cake.
