Vanilla Crisco Frosting - I couldn't resist

I made a small batch of chocolate cupcakes for hubby and I to celebrate our birthdays.  I couldn't resist using my mom's frosting recipe.  It's such a treat Smiley Happy

1/2 cup Crisco

2 t vanilla extract  (clear if you have it)

1/8 t salt

4 cups powdered sugar  (usually use less)

1/4 cup milk

* I also sometimes add a teaspoon or 2 of almond extract, especially if decorating a white cake.

Beat crisco, vanilla and salt until light and fluffy.  On low speed, alternate adding the powdered sugar and milk until blended.  Add more milk or sugar if needed for the consistency you want.

Recipe says it will frost 18 cupcakes or a 13.9 cake.

This may seem silly but I didn't know they still sold Crisco.

The best crisp chocolate chip cookies that I have made were made with Crisco.

I think they sell Crisco in sticks now,  like sticks of butter.

yes!  that's what I used - so much easier to slice what I need.  I just bought those - $7.99 for 3 stick. ouch.

It is still sold in a 3-lb cardboard container at the local grocery store.  I buy the 1-lb stick quantity for frying salmon patties.

I didn't know it was still sold either until a few years ago when Brenda Gantt started her facebook cooking page during the pandemic and made her famous biscuits.

YUM!!  Years ago I took a cake decorating class. We made a lot of this frosting with Crisco to practice.  Needless to say, I ate a lot too!  Fun class!

It may taste good but is considered a trans fat which as you know is linked to many health risks including cardiovascular.
