This Saturday is baking day with my grandbabies. We're going to make hearts a few different ways. One way is these little mini pies w/ cherry filling. I will be using premade pie dough to make it easy on myself. My 5 grandbabies are coming over w/ their dads on Saturday, we will bake and then make up a couple of trays to take to relatives.
I already plan on making star shaped apple, cherry, blueberry mini pies for 4th of July bbq.
VALENTINE’S DAY MINI CHERRY HEART PIES - From Frugal Coupon Living
INGREDIENTS
1 box Refrigerated Pie Crust
11 oz Cherry Pie Filling
1 Egg
1 tbsp Milk
White Sparkling Sugar
Heart Shaped Cookie Cutter
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat your oven to 350.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Lay out your pie crust and using a 3 to 4″ heart shaped cookie cutter, cut about 16 hearts.
Cut as many shapes as you can, then reroll scraps as needed to get more hearts (get an even number).
Mix your egg and milk to make an egg wash.
Place half of the hearts on prepared pan(s).
Use egg wash to wet the edges of the hearts on the pan.
Place a small amount of the pie filling in the center of each heart.
Make a small x cut in the center of the remaining half of the hearts that are not on the pan.
Place your x heart crust on top of each filled heart and press and crimp edges. A fork can help crimp.
Brush sealed pie with egg wash and dust with sparkling sugar.
Bake for 14 to 16 minutes until crust is browned.
Allow to cool.

Thank you for that post! I love cherry tarts. I would love to make these for Valentine's Day. A few years ago I went to the local bakery and chose two hearts just like these, and they were six dollars each! I should have made them myself, but it was a last-minute thing. Great recipe!

I think these will be fun to make w/ my grandbabies. Easy for their little helping hands to make and enjoy eating. Not too many cherries will fit inside these small hearts ... perfect little two bite (or so) pies.

They look perfect! I hope you and the grandkids enjoy making them, and enjoying them once they're baked. ❤️🍒

I'm counting on easy since I'm making it w/ the help of small children.
I really do hope they turn out ok, as I have plans for red, white, and blue star pies for 4th of July eating.

@kate2357 I hope the kids had fun helping you. I would definitely had made those hearts when I had little kids in the house. My valentine dessert this year will be thrown together (angel food cake cubes, strawberries, Jello and Cool Whip).

I think we all had a great time. My 5 grandbabies were joined by their fathers and their grandpa to cut out hearts, squish the edges with a fork, dip strawberries into chocolate....so much giggling....so many happy smiles.
The pies turned out nicely. There were two that had filling come out of the top, but we ate the evidence. We made two other heart items and they turned out really good too.
When we were done baking everything, their dads took them to see the aunties and deliver the sweets. I cleaned up the kitchen and took a nap!
