My DD can't eat dairy ---such a drag as what doesn't have dairy in it? But I was told to try using unsweetened oat milk instead of cows milk as a replacement. So I tried using it in mashed potatoes and it worked out great!! I was using unsweet almond milk and it was too thin and sweet. the oat milk is pretty much tasteless but stood up very well and made very exceptable mashed spuds. Made pancakes using it--great! Made a packaged hollandais sauce that was fine as well. am looking for an oatmilk subs for cream/half and half now. There is creamy oatmilk and coffee creamer too, that might work. Just thought I would pass this on----

Are those substitutes expensive @wagirl ? I paid $1.99 for a half gallon of milk and didn't finish it before the expiration date.

Good to know they also make it in unsweetened. When I looked at it in the grocery store all they had was with too much sugar. I will have to look again. I use unsweetened almond milk in some smoothies

@wagirl I buy original and creamy oat milk. I use both, but I had not tried substituting into recipes. I will now. Thank you for sharing.

Re: Using oat milk in recipes

@AuntG ---We drink almond milk everyday as I am sensitive to cows milk, but can eat other dairy.  I pay about $3.59 a gallon for almond milk. And remember, these nut/grain milks don't spoil like cows milk does, they have a long expiration date on them--can last a couple months, even opened and still taste fine. So no, we aren't 't throwing out any of it. So no cash in the trash.

@Nightowlz --I prefer almond milk myself, so I agree with you.. We only use the unsweetened varieties and I use it in my smoothies every day too. Oatmilk has a very neutral taste and is thick like cows milk so it does well in mashed spuds--no taste at all really. My daughter drinks the oatmilk creamer in her coffee.
