Re: Today I really improved my waffles

I love waffles with syrup and butter but for an appetizer make waffles and cut into cracker sized pieces.  Spread with creme fraiche, top with a piece of smoked salmon and sprinkle with chopped chives.  Delicious!

@DiAnne

Ive read that both methods are good, but the Belgian waffles I had at the fair definitely had a yeast base ....they were fabulous 😋

[ Edited ]

@Azcowgirl  I saved this recipe from an old Cook's Country magazine:

1 1/4 cups flour

1 cup Rice Krispies

3/4 cup cornstarch

1/4 cup sugar

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

3/4 tsp salt

2 eggs, separated

1 1/2 cups milk

1 tsp vanilla

1/2 cup vegetable oil

Stir flour, Rice Krispies, cornstarch, sugar, baking powder and soda, and salt together in big bowl.  Whisk egg yolks, milk, vanilla, and oil together in another bowl.

Beat egg whites to soft peaks with electric mixer in bowl.  Whisk milk mixture with flour mixture.  Gently whisk in egg whites, leaving a few streaks of whites in batter.

Pour 2/3 cup batter onto center of waffle iron set at medium heat.  Spread batter to 1/2" from edge of iron.  Close lid and cook 3-4 minutes.

Re: Today I really improved my waffles

@Azcowgirl.  My mother's waffles were a major production to make.  She whipped egg whites and folded them into the batter.  They weren't Belgium waffles, but they surely were good.

@Kachina624 I’ll have to try the whipped egg white method , I bet that really makes a big difference 😋.

I discovered Eggo's new Belgian Style Waffles in the Frozen Food aisle, put them in my compact oven on toaster setting, delicious!  They have several different flavors, except no pecans!  Love pecan waffles!

@Hooty

I saw those and since they were buy one/get one free, I decided to try them.

Imagine my dismay when I realized they won't fit in my regular toaster (not a wide slot) and I don't have a toaster oven, LOL!

You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

I’ve always made Williams Sonoma sour cream waffles. You don’t have to top with butter, it’s already in there!😋 You can find the recipe online.

@KingstonsMom, Oh no, I am so sorry, you can put them in the oven though!  I got the Kitchenaid compact countertop oven from QVC awhile back, and I just love it, and they are great in there!
