Those Italian Cookies w/ the Icing

They are so yum! I made these yesterday, but my receipt had a bit of a twist:

Less flour & baking powder, for one thing, and adding the juice of an orange.

4 C flour

3/4 C Crisco (I used one stick of butter and made up the difference w/ butter-flavored Crisco)

3 Tbsp. baking powder

Add:

3/4 C sugar

4 eggs (extra large)

5 - 6 drops of yellow food coloring

juice of 1 whole orange (I used a navel...that was a lot of juice!)

2 Tbsp. vanilla (my bourbon vanilla, what else?)

Add some aniseed. (I used about a tablespoon.)

1 1/4 C water (gosh, with all that orange juice, I didn't use any water at all!)

The dough was still very sticky, and I didn't want to add any more flour, so I dropped them by big tablespoons onto parchment -- 9 to a cookie sheet. Baked @ 375 for 7 minutes; turned the pans and baked another 7 minutes. They were perfect!

And then the icing: I just judged the powdered sugar, more vanilla and milk and kept it on the thick side. Sprinkled w/ decoration.

I had to give my DH his own separate tin, and forewarned him not to get his paws in my tin! Smiley Happy
