Taste-testers rate the best mayonnaise brands

[ Edited ]

The latest issue of Cook's Country  lists three of "the most well-loved mayos".

1.  Hellman's (sold as Best Foods west of the Rockies)......."the most popular brand in the U.S.   Accounts for about half of all mayo sales.

2.  Duke's... "made with cider vinegar, which gives it a sharp flavor.  It has ardent fans in many Southern States."

3.  Blue Plate........"the test kitchen's favorite mayo is made with egg yolks, not whole eggs.  It must be mail-ordered in most of the country."

I grew up with Hellman's, & always loved it best, until I discovered Trader Joe's organic mayo, in a smaller jar.  It has a wonderful lemony taste.

The website for Blue Plate mayo has some interesting recipes, particularly with summer arriving.

I was always a Hellman's user until I tried Blue Plate.  Now, my order is there reverse:  Blue Plate, Duke's, Hellman's.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!

I have never tasted Duke's or Blue Plate but Best Foods is my go to brand.  I even like it better than homemade mayo!

Taste is such a personal thing that I don't pay attention to this type of study/survey.  Also, often our tastes are influenced by what we ate when we were growing up, partly because the taste (and smell) of something, is deeply associated with happy memories.
