Sweetened Condensed Milk color and texture?

I just opened a can of Sweetened Condensed Milk. The expiration date is May of 2025.  The color was more yellow than and the texture thicker than I remember it. It is almost as thick a pudding (but not quite that thick).  It smells fine. I tasted it and it taste fine.  Has anyone ever encountered this?  Or is it always like that I am not remembering correctly?  I am just a little concerned.

@mormel20  I think that sounds like typical seeetened condensed milk not to be confused with evaporated milk which would be more like normal milk. I'd say it's fine.

I just now Googled sweetened condensed milk and the pictures of it show it as yellow.   You should be A-OK.

I'm sorry I'm not there to lick the lid to test it for you.  You know, you can get it in a squeeze bottle now.  So dangerous.

Let me anywhere near a can of sweetened condensed milk and I'll eat it by the spoonful! What you described sounds exactly right.  Maybe you were remembering evaporated milk, which is white and thinner.

Re: Sweetened Condensed Milk color and texture?

I've had cans ranging from pale yellow to a very light brown--all normal and all worked fine in recipes.  I found this on the Eaglebrand site:

Can the color of the sweetened condensed milk vary? Yes, it should have an off-white color. However, as the product ages it may darken in color and thicken. As long as the Best If Used By date is still current, the product can still be used.
