Just had another idea - since it's Valentine's weekend, make each of their favorite dishes/desserts. Even if it doesn't go together, I think it would be a nice touch and be appreciated.

Just remembered another possibility - pita pockets. You could have a couple different versions (ie tuna and chicken). Easy to make ahead, not messy when eating and not as typical as other things.

Go to your favourite Sub shop and get a couple of sub sandwiches. Cut'em up into finger sandwiches.

Quick Easy Done.

otherwise Chili sounds great.

I have an often requested favorite from the Gooseberry Patch Comfort and Joy Cookbook called Polish Sausage Appetizer.  It's easy, everyone loves it, and the end result is so much better than the name sounds!

2 lbs of Polish sausage sliced on the diagonal-I use Hillshire Farms Smoked Beef Sausage

1 onion diced

3/4 cup brown sugar packed

1 cup of applesauce-I use Motts Original

Combine all ingrediens in a 9x13 baking dish and bake for one hour at 350 turning halfway through.

I make a triple batch and keep warm in the crockpt.

We usually serve this with a deep dish potato casserole and a vegie tray, cheeses, and good rolls.

I have made these Individual Nachos, and they were a hit.

Recipe is from Martha Stewart; you can easily adapt this to your tastes.

I have made this for so many gatherings over the years.  It is a popular recipe from the Cincinnatti area.  It is always a hit.  Skyline Chili also comes in a can although I prefer the frozen variety.  Obviously, you can use any kind of shredded cheddar.  I also spread a 1/4 cup of onion over the cream cheese.  It's easy to double for a large crowd. I also put the cheese on top before heating.

Skyline Chili Dip

Ingredients:

  • 12 oz of cream cheese
  • 14 oz pouch of Skyline Chili
  • 12 oz bag of Skyline Chili Shredded Cheddar Cheese

Recipe:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  2. Spread 12 ounces of cream cheese into 9 x 13” pan
  3. Microwave 13 to 15 ounces of Skyline Chili on high for 2 minutes
  4. Pour chili evenly over the cream cheese layer
  5. Place pan in preheated oven for 10 minutes
  6. Remove from oven, top with 12 ounces of Skyline Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  7. Let stand for 5 minutes, then enjoy with tortilla chips.

Super Bowl Sunday and Valentines Day are no big deal in this house.   I can't even say with certainty that a football game has ever been watched on any of the TV's in this house.
