I was just going through my collection of recipes and found my grandmother's recipe for raisin-date bars. Remembered that I used to love these when I was little and thought maybe I'd make them for Christmas. But one ingredient is 1/4 C shortening I assumed to be Crisco, which was a cooking staple years ago. In this recipe, it is used along with butter, brown sugar, flour, and oatmeal as the crust. I don't use Crisco at all now and really don't want to purchase a whole can for just 1/4 cup - what would you suggest as a substitute???
Addendum - or maybe I will just substitute the crust of another more heart-healthy raspberry bar recipe - and use the raisin-date filling instead of raspberry jam. Problem solved!
