Re: Sub. For Celery in Honey Baked Bean soup???

@aroc3435 Her question sent me to Google -  celery seed doesn't even come from the table celery we all use -  it's from wild celery root -  that's why it's so intense.

Won't help you this time, but Penzey's sell Celery Flakes that can be used "as is"  in a soup (1 TB  = 1 small stalk) or rehydrated in water for roasts or casseroles (discard water first) '

I finally bought some after all the celery thrown out over the years, lol

They also have red/green peppers and air dried shallots that are similar in that they can be rehydrated in water.  Won't be crunchy, but will give flavor.

I guess you don't have fresh lovage, huh?

That gives a wonderful celery flavor.

Just leave it out!  I don't like celery, so I always leave it out.  Never an issue with a recipe not tasting good!

Just the bag you get at their store that has the beans and spices in it

I am going to have to use the dehydrated onion too...I used all my fresh

stuff Thanksgiving or either I just am out!

@Monketoes Sure!  Just go easy on the salt, taste as you go, and the onions will be fine!  I always use them in chili because they hold their flavor better.

I had to look up what "fresh lovage" is.

I like plain celery w/ dip but don't care for it in salads, casseroles, soups, etc.  I always just leave it out of the recipe.

Please tell us how the soup turned out.

Boy is it rainy and cold. Making soup sounds like a good idea.

Even in the rain the birds are having a party at the bird feeder. And since they tend to be sloppy eaters the squirrels have joined the party.
