@eddyandme  As others mentioned, I make mine with the Bisquick recipe. I put it into a pie plate to bake. When it comes out of the oven, I wait until it is just a bit cool and serve it in bowls with fresh macerated strawberries and milk over everything. Growing up, warm strawberry shortcake or hot apple pie in milk was often Sunday supper in the summer.

I use fresh berries sprinkled with a generous amount of sugar.  I make the Bisquick biscuits following the package directions.  My special touch is making real whip cream to top the shortcake off by beating heavy cream with a touch of vanilla.

@Meadowgirl , that's the way I've always had t, too.  I always broke the biscuit in half and poured the strawberries with their juice over it, then covered it all with the whipped cream!  (Calories dissipate when indulging oneself with such a summer treatWoman Wink).

My favorite is fresh strawberries with a bit of sugar to juice them up, over a slice of Angel food cake.

But the last time, I had no cake so we put them over Twinkies, which we bought.

Kind of strange, I know, but actually quite good!  😁😁

I have used the Twinkies a few times myself when I was the only one craving, otherwise pound cake for the whole family.

Thank you all for sharing.  Got some good ideas, such as lemon pound cake, and have never tried it topped with milk - but it makes sense!

I make biscuits with Bisquick, top them with fresh strawberries I have mixed with a little sugar and let sit in the refrigerator to make them saucy, then serve them topped with vanilla ice cream

My mom always made it with sponge cake; my mother-in-law used biscuits. When I was newly married I wanted DH to be happy, so biscuits won out!  . Smiley Happy

Re: Strawberry Shortcake

[ Edited ]

I use only big juicy strawberries, sponge, pound, or angel food cake and homemade whipped cream.

Bread (as in biscuit) doesn't appeal to me as a dessert.

My Mom would get a white cake mix and bake in a 13x9......then she would get fresh strawberries from our garden and slice and mix in some sugar and refrigerate them.  Cut a slice of cake and top with spoonfuls of the sweetened strawberries.  Top off with a dollup of Cool Whip or Redi-Whip.  So good.........

Bisquick for the biscuits and it must be fresh, like right out of the oven.  Sliced, sugared, fresh berries.  All served with a bit of milk in the bowl.  We make a meal of it.

I purchased berries today, I hope they are good.  This will be my 3rd purchase of berries and hope they are good the other two did not have much flavor, so disappointing since the season is so short.

@ECBG  Bisquick shortcake biscuits are sweetened and are very yummy for strawberry shortcake.

I try and use only Driscoll brand strawberries. They are by far the best ones I have found. They have much more flavor. Strawberry shortcake has always been my favorite dessert. I use either pound cake, sponge cake, angefood cake, or ladyfingers. Not a fan of the shortcake biscuits. I usually macerate the strawberries in a bit of truvia or sugar to pull out some of the juice. I always slice the berries first. Extremely cold and stiff real whipped cream is a must-have!
