Have some leftover ham....and some basic unexciting recipes.  Anyone have a killer recipe?

Extra points if it's pressure cooker or slow cooker.

Thanks!

Acutally, @denisemb , I just follow the recipe printed on the split pea package and it has never failed me. I have also made it in the pressure cooker. mmmmmm Sounds delish Woman Happy.

Happy eating!

I really don't have a soup recipe. I cook them in chicken stock instead of water, with onion, celery, carrot and potatoes, and add herbs like dill

Slow S-L-O-W cooking gets every bit of meat off the bones. That, combined with @cherry 's suggestions, is a sure path to split pea success.

INVITE ME, then freeze the leftovers.

Re: Split Pea Soup Recipe?

[ Edited ]

I use the recipe on the bag of dry split peas.  I usually buy Goya brand.  I add more veggies  (carrots, celery), put it in the crock pot.  Delicious!

Towards the end I add 1 tsp. Montreal steak seasoning.  That's all.  I don't like it too salty.

Just got this from a friend:

1 # bag of dried split peas

1 small onion, diced

2 small carrots, sliced

1 rib celery, sliced

Enough butter to sauté vegetables

8 cups water

1 meaty ham bone

1 tsp chicken bouillon powder

Pepper to taste

@denisemb My sister used to be SO in love with split pea soup when we were children.  Thank you for reminding me.  I hadn't thought of that in years and years.Smiley Happy

I make a smaller amount in my 4-quart slow cooker.  It is important to NOT stir the soup until it is completely cooked:

1 cup dry split peas

2 cups chopped ham

3/4 cup chopped carrots

3/4 cup chopped onion

3/4 cup chopped celery

5 cups chicken broth

1 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp pepper

1 bay leaf

Whisk broth, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in bowl.

Layer peas, ham, carrots, onion, and celery in slow cooker (don't stir).

Pour in broth and drop in bay leaf (don't stir).

Cover and cook on high for 4 hours.

Remove bay leaf and stir.

I make mine in my Instant Pot, similar to the recipes already posted. Instead of ham I usually add some sliced jalapeno sausage.   I add red pepper flakes also.

My mom would always add those small link sausages to her pea soup, but it always

grossed me out.  Looked like.......well, I better not say.  Smiley Happy
