My BFF stuck this Better Homes & Gardens " Soups & Stews recipe magazine in my Christmas package. It was probably an afterthought, but she knows I love to make soup. Well I just started going through it today, and It is full of wonderful recipes I haven't see one yet I wouldn't try. Anyway if you see this at your news stand or market , check it out , it is worth the price. It says it will be on display till 2/19/21.

I like soups and stews because they can be made earlier in the day which helps to avoid the dinner crush.  Also most can be frozen, so handy for nights when cooking isn't convenient.  Another thing, soups and stews are a way to get a lot of nutrition in one meal because of the variety of ingredients.  I made split pea soup this past week, have enough for an Army, so a couple containers went in the freezer.

Darn...I just cancelled my subscription due to lack of good recipes.  Signed up for Taste of Home again which I got years ago.

I just pulled container of Veal Stew out of the freezer for dinner = not in the mood to start dinner from scratch.

After this ice storm passes - Walgreen's has lots of mags.  Thanks

What I like about soups is you can make them as think or thin as you like by adding more broth or tomato juice. My preference is for thinner soups so I take more juice and DH gets the thicker portions that he likes.

@fthunt  It's isn't their regular magazine, but a special edition.

We also like them. I was going to make some today since it's cold with snow. More snow then we have had in a long time.

I decided to make pot roast. It's in the oven in the dutch oven slow cooking. The onions smell yummy.

Think I will eat some open face on homemade biscuit DH made with some of the gravy.

DH has never had open face roast beef. He thinks I'm nuts?

The sad thing about these mouth-watering recipe supplement books they put out is the price.  Food Network, BH&G, they tempt me at checkout, until I check the price.  $13.00?  What happened to the $5.00 ones?

I have the taste of home special edition of soups and stews, I love it and use it all the time.  Every recipe I've made has been really good.  I always make it in the crockpot, it gives the house that warm and cozy aroma.  I'm intrigued by this one though, I just may have to check it out.

Re: Soups and Stews

[ Edited ]

I've been saving recipes for years, gathered from many different publications and sources

Today, all of those and more are available with a mouse click on the internet.

No need to pay big money for a soup cookbook, unless one just likes to browse and turn pages, and then store the publication on a shelf..  (Browsing recipes on the internet and saving to computer files can be a sport in itself!)

  Just my opinion.
