Baked potatoes with butter/sour cream are great for a soft diet since they're filling. And don't forget to treat yourself with a sweet treat - how about cheesecake! Hope you're feeling better!

Sorry you received some unpleasant comments. I had a huge molar pulled 2 months ago and it was not fun. I basically could only eat cottage cheese, yogurt, oatmeal, cream of wheat, farina, soft boiled eggs, lukewarm soup for weeks because of the pain. Then a month later on 3rd return visit the oral surgeon had to cut open gum to debride the jaw bone where tooth was and re-stitched with 6 stitches because infection was so bad. I was still in pain because it was healing over the infection even though I had been on antibiotics for 4 weeks. Lest anyone think it is a cakewalk. Just over 2 months now since extraction and it is still very sensitive and I cannot chew anything that is tough (meats) or sharp such as crackers, chips, popcorn. Baked fish is very easy to chew. Mainly I had to re-train myself to chew on my other side for past 3 months from when pain started. So just eat whatever you can, especially protein in lieu of fatty or sweet foods.

@Luvsmyfam I've only had wisdom teeth pulled when I was much younger. I lived on Dairy Queen soft serve for a few days! It's too bad that instead of answering your question, some posters take the low road and criticize you. I'd stick with Jello and fruit cups for my snacks and soup for my meals. Hope you feel better soon and can resume a regular diet.

@Luvsmyfam Your dentist should have handed you post extraction instructions on what to eat and when you can start chewing. I never had an issue and I've had many teeth extracted. The only "long term" soft food eating I ever had to do was for my implants as someone mentioned already.
Standard procedure with no extenuating circumstances (if the tooth was not impacted, gum disease etc) 24 hours of liquids (no straw use) is recommended then you can do soft foods and usually avoiding that side of your mouth. And then you can do soft foods, and after 2-3 days no pain, you can start chewing. But again everyone is different and I would just follow what your dentist advised. Personally after the first 24 hours I started eating lol. I didn't eat steak or hard items like pretzels and popcorn, but I had no pain so I started chewing. Never had a problem. But everyone's mouth/pain levels are different. Follow your doctor's advise and I'm sure you will heal just fine
It's just a few days so don't sweat the calories for the short term. Prayers for quick healing.

@Luvsmyfam I hope you are feeling better. I thought I'd Just to add a little tip to your mashed potatoes.
When my dad had trouble chewing, I'd make a beef roast and gravy, grind the cooked roast up small and add the ground beef to the gravy. I'd make him mashed potatoes with a well of beef and gravy. When the real gravy ran out I'd make some out of broth thickened with a cornstarch slurry. ( which freezes well for quick portions on hand.) He did enjoy it.
Also he enjoyed the Baked Stuffed Haddock from Belle Isle Seafood. The "stuffing" was more a coating piled up on the top but It was just perfect. Still my favourite.
Hope you heal up quickly!

I've been eating a soft food diet since 2020. I've recently (last4-6wks) started adding things to my food. I eat soups, yogurt, cottage cheese, cream of whatever soups. I had weight loss surgery in 2020 that failed leaving me unable to eat most food so if I really want something, I try to purée it. Mashed potatoes, cream corn, baked potato with all toppings smashed. It's a horrible way to eat but it's my daily reality. I should mention, I still cook everything and try to push it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
