Slow-Cooker Hot Buttered Rum

My parents used to make Hot Buttered Rum for guests at Christmastime. I found some of the old-timey mugs a few years ago and revived the tradition.

I just got a recipe in email for doing it in a slow-cooker, created by a well known online food blogger and sent out by Betty Crocker. Aside from the tasty warming qualities of the drink, this recipe, brewing for a few hours, has to make your home smell WOMDERFUL!

I'm going to try this out soon:

Slow-Cooker Hot Buttered Rum

Ingredients

Hot Buttered Rum

2
cups packed dark brown sugar
1/2
cup unsalted butter
1
teaspoon salt
1/2
teaspoon ground nutmeg
1
pinch ground allspice
5
whole cloves
3
cinnamon sticks
1
vanilla bean
8
cups hot water
2
cups rum
Toppings
Whipped cream
Ground nutmeg and ground cinnamon
  • 1 In slow cooker, mix all Hot Buttered Rum ingredients except rum. Cover; cook on Low heat setting about 5 hours or until warm.
  • 2 Stir in rum. Serve in glasses or mugs topped with whipped cream and a sprinkle each of ground nutmeg and cinnamon.
EXPERT TIPS

Keep slow cooker on Warm heat setting throughout your party so guests can enjoy warm drinks all evening long.

Light rum is the best option for this recipe, but gold or spiced rum works well, too.

Re: Slow-Cooker Hot Buttered Rum

ps Sorry for the typo above, "Womderful" should have been "Wonderful".
