Simple Banana Upside Down Cake

Ingredients
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup chopped pecans
  • 4 bananas, sliced
  • 1 package banana or yellow cake mix
Directions
  • Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour 2 (8 inch) pans. Combine butter and brown sugar, divide and spread evenly between the 2 pans. Sprinkle pecans evenly over both brown sugar mixtures, arrange banana slices evenly over each.

  • Step 2

Prepare cake mix according to package instructions. Divide batter into the 2 pans.

  • Step 3

Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Turn cakes upside down on a platter or plate, gently tap bottom and carefully remove pans, replacing caramel mixture that sticks to pan.

Do you happen to have a photo of the finished product?

@Reconnaissant This sounds easy enough and will be on my bucket list when our store gets some decent bananas.  It is hard to beat a good piece of cake!

@skatting44 I'll second that!  Or even a little rum.  Dark rum. . .

Thanks for sharing. Never heard of BANANA upside down cake. That picture looks so yummy. I wonder if you could stack the layers and maybe drizzle with some caramel sauce.

@Reconnaissant

Is this complete as two one-layer cakes?  Or are they stacked to make a single two-layer cake?  Thanks.

Re: Simple Banana Upside Down Cake

I found the answer to.my question by looking up the recipe online.  It serves 12 and makes 2 - 8 inch round pans.
