Would love to do dine at a fine restaurant for Thanksgiving...but they aren’t open this year. Our area has had these on-again, off-again  coronavirus restrictions....hard to plan anything.

I "tweak" boxed turkey stuffing

(no butter)

I add: sauteed onions & celery

cooked pork sausage  1/2 hot & 1/2 sage

turkey bone broth instead of water

Annabelle sounds like your home has been the gathering place. I love get togethers during the holidays, but the exes showing up, with or without their new loves, would be too much for me, regardless of the food being served!

Re: Signature Thanksgiving holiday dish?

I was always asked to make two dishes for my family, Pistachio Pudding Salad and Pickled Mushrooms.

Pistachio Pudding Salad

1 16 oz can crushed pineapple

1 package instant pistachio pudding

1 small can mandarin oranges, drained

1 cup chopped walnuts

2 apples, cut up

8 oz Cool Whip

Add pineapple to dry pudding, mix in remaining ingredients.

Pickled Mushrooms

3/4 lb fresh small mushrooms

1 1/4 cups water

3/4 cup cider vinegar

1 tsp whole mustard seed

1/2 tsp whole peppercorns

1/2 tsp salt

Rinse, pat dry, and trim mushrooms, set aside.  In medium saucepan, place water, vinegar, mustard seed, peppercorns and salt; bring to a boil.  Reduce heat and simmer, covered, about 10 minutes to allow flavors to develop.  Add mushrooms, continue to simmer, covered, about 10 minutes or until mushrooms are tender.  Pour mushrooms and season vinegar into a container.  Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

I usually doubled this recipe.

@ECBG   Cooking with cast iron adds iron to the food.  My pregnant neighbor borrowed my cast iron skillets years ago when she was iron deficient.
