Any good recipes for Shepards Pie?  Saw one using thin sliced potatoes for topping instead of mashed and thought how nice cause it would take less time.

This is the recipe I make.  I always double it.  Leftovers are wonderful.

I follow the recipe, but always cook the burger separately and drain the fat off before I mix it with the veggies. It's better that way.

I also just make mashed potatoes and don't follow the recipe for those.  You could use premade store bought  mashed if you want to...I never have though.

I often make this ahead of time and store in the fridge, then just pop it in the oven before dinner time.

You can also freeze the leftovers.  Everyone who eats this, asks for the recipe

The best that I have ever had was at Jessop's Tavern in New Castle , Delaware .  They add layers of  sliced roasted beef roast along with  diced up root vegetables .

 Shepherd's  Pie
" From Oxford to New Castle, this cottage pie includes layers of seasoned beef, root vegetables, and tavern-made mashed potatoes, all covered in a moat of our rich beef gravy. Our Shepherd’s Pie is a 2 ½ pound meal! "

Is it their Kirkland brand and frozen or refrigerated?

@rockygems123 :  It is in their prepared foods (deli).....very good.  Also, they have a pot pie which is also delicious.  I entertain a lot and people always ask me about the food I serve.  My answer is always that Costco is my caterer.  There's not too many items that I haven't liked from them.

My cheat recipe:

1.  Saute #ground beef, adding a dab of worcestershire sauce and soy along with some tumeric and cumin and a dab ofcinnamon.

2.  Add a container of Bob (forgot the name) mashed potatoes, adding a little rice vinegar along with couple tsp. sour cream.

3. For the bottom of casserole dish layer a can of corn(drained) sprinled with half a packet of shredded cheese, saving enough to layer to the potatoes on top.

I heat at 350* for 45 min covered, then 15 min uncovered.

Probably doesn't sound that great, but everyone seems to love it!Woman Wink

@Carmie

That looks delicious, thank you for posting I'll be making this.

And @bargainsgirl as @Carmie mentioned you can use your own mashed potatoes as she does or from the store.

Have to say Bob Evans sour cream and chive mashed potatoes are incredible.  Never thought I'd say that as have never liked any others as I've cooked my own for many years, wow.  It was a suggestion from a fellow girlfriend who cooks a lot too and have never looked back. Smiley Happy
