Re: Sausage in the Slow Cooker

@Kachina624

I bought a Keilbasa today to make over the weekend.  I found a recipe that sounds similar to yours.

It's a skillet recipe with onions and broccoli, and sliced potatoes (in place of hominy

I really do like sausages of all kinds.

(I had to look up hominy ... sounds like something I would like!  Definitely will give it a try.  Which is better, the yellow or the white?)

I like to brown slices of Kielbasa sausage with sliced onions and peppers in a skillet, then simmer about 30 min with a BIG can of hominy.   Makes a super quick, easy, tasty meal.

I'm going to order some from Amazon.  Save myself a trip to the grocery store who may or may not have it!

@ALRATIBA.  I've become very fond of hominy, although it's nothing I ever ate growing up, an adult discovery.  I always get the yellow.  I think one is made from white corn, one from yellow.

I've always intended to experiment with it as a replacement for pasta in pasta salad.  It has more flavor.

Great!

Thanks.  I ordered some yellow Goya brand.   It sounds really tasty!

(Actually - after reading the description - I subscribed to 12 cans every six months.)

@ALRATIBA.  I think you'll like it, let me know what you think.  I always drain most of the liquid off of it.

Re: Sausage in the Slow Cooker

I love sausage, peppers and onions with sauce and your recipe sounds delicious.  My family, unlike me, likes sausage/pepper/onions with no sauce and prefers it made where the sausage is browned, so I use the air fryer for a quick dinner.  It only takes about 20 minutes in the air fryer. 20220119_110956.jpg

One of my favorite family/food memories is of sitting at the College World Series with my favorite guys, right in front of a concession stand cooking sausage, peppers & onions.  I have made that combo ever since and loved every bite!  I also have nightmares of hominy, the only food I truly hate.  It was a staple on our school lunch tray in the 50's and just the smell is revolting to me. It didn't help that my Grandma Nellie served it often and thought I should at least try a bite. . . every single time!
