Forgot to say that I don't cook hamburgers in there or any greasy type of meat that needs a long cooking time.  The two times I tried burgers, my air fryer got very smokey and my smoke detector went off.  The burgers were good, but not worth the aggravation of having to air out the house and get rid of the smoke.

How long do you  cook a filet in an air fryer to ensure medium rare? I've never tried cooking a steak like that! Sounds like an excellent idea. TIA!

I typically grill seafood and steaks, but was curious about airfryer for when it is cold out. I have a covered back deck/patio, but sometimes it's kind of cold and miserable out there.

@kate2357 I actually have a Jenn-Aire grill, so I can grill inside all year.  I will say the downdraft fan stinks though.  I ended up buying a Ninja grill a few years ago to reduce the smoke because I had an asthmatic cat. It's not completely smokeless, but if you put some water in the bottom it does a good job.

I've never been one to grill seafood, so I haven't tried that, but since it is an air fryer at heart, it cooks very quickly.  So quickly, that I often will go back to my Jenn-Aire for some things like chicken strips and kielbasa.

Tonight we're having quesadillas and I'll cook the chicken strips on the Jenn-Aire grill as well as the quesadillas.  I tried quesadillas in the Ninja, but I didn't like the dry edges it created due to the fan.

@kate2357 ---No skin on the salmon---and yes, right on the rack of the airfryer---I cooked on airfry at 360* for about 6 minutes---fish was 6 oz filets and about 3/4 " thick. Think I will check at 5 minutes next time--take it out and let it stand for a few minutes. Meat tends to keep cooking after the heat is removed so it should be prefect after a few minutes.

@Citrine1 ---I have found if I cook meats at 350*, the smoke issue doesn't happen--I also cook bacon in the airfryer with much success --was always tripping the smoke alarm too--

Ah, so that's how you do your bacon. My smoke alarm went off too when I tried doing bacon in airfryer.  Thanks for tip.

Don't think it's a matter of overcooking ... and I actually like how the skin sticks so I can just slide the salmon off and onto the plate. Thanks for sharing your method.

@kate2357

We do ours (on the wood pellet grill) on al foil with Don Produn's Red Fish spice on al foil with the lid down a few minutes.  It scoops up with a turner leaving the skin on the foil.

I cook my steaks at 400 degrees, 5 minutes per side.  I hope this works for you.  Good luck!  And, of course, you can cut into the steak and cook an extra minute at a time if it's too rare.
