@beach-mom

                Your salad sounds delicious. That was so great to receive a French cookbook from your grandmother. I would have loved that at that age. My mother wouldn't let me cook and "mess up her kitchen". She would let me help to make salads. I  married at a very young age and was thrilled to have my own kitchen to cook and bake in.

                 It was in the 1970's that I bought my first French cookbook, by Julia Child.

                 My original Salade Nicoise recipe has Romaine lettuce to line the platter, but I haven't done that in a while. It also has sliced red peppers.

                   My husband doesn't eat peppers, so I use tomatoes to add some color to the dish.  My son doesn't like black olives or capers, so I made a separate plate for him, so he doesn't have to pick them out.

                   I have been making these salads for over 40 years,

but I don't make it often. My husband is more of a "meat and potatoes" guy. My son and I could live on salads. All five of my children loved salads of many kinds.

@Enufstuff - The cookbook was my first one. I think I made almost every recipe in it! I still treasure it! And it started my interest in everything French.

I was cooking at a young age. My mom never learned to cook well before she was married, and my grandmother couldn't cook well at all. So mom had me helping in the kitchen early!

I still make 2 of our favorite dishes from that cookbook- the Salade Nicoise and Quiche Lorraine - with Gruyère cheese of course!

You are lucky to have Julia's cookbook! Of all of the cookbooks I have, I don't have that one!

Did you see the movie Julie and Julia with Meryl Streep and Amy Adams? If you haven't it's really cute. A young girl decides to make every recipe in the cookbook you have, one each day!  The movie also goes back in time to Julia's journey.  Smiley Happy

@Enufstuff- Looks delish.  I will eliminate the capers as we're not fond of them.  Great meal for hot day.  Thanks for the recipe and pic

@Enufstuff  It looks delicious and perfect for hot weather!  It was cool for a week or so but we are now headed for another heat wave.

I'll be over.....what would you like for dessert? Smiley Happy

@haddon9  When we had this last Friday, the 80 degree weather

           had returned, after a few rather cool days.

           We had Key Lime Pie for dessert, not too heavy and not too sweet. I didn't make the dessert, my sister in law bought it.

@Enufstuff I'm also one of those unfortunates who get a bad reaction sometimes from mosquitoe bites.  They seem to love me!

My DH spends a huge amount of time in our screen house and never gets a bite and I'm often indoors and will suddenly find a bite.  Usually on my legs and feet.

@Enufstuff - what a beautiful presentation!

Your comments about the mosquitos hit home with me, I too appear to be a magnet for those little bloodsuckers. Now that I know I'm diabetic I figure I'm like a trip to Dunkin Donuts for them!

@We rescue cats We must be extra sweet!  They love me too but never bother DH!

@beach-mom  I have not seen Julie and Julia. I can probably catch it on Amazon Prime movies.

 From Julia's cookbook, I have made Quiche Lorraine,

Buche de Noel, Coq au Vin and Beouf Bourguinone.

 Other French recipes that I make are Pots de Creme, Crepes, Pea Soup, French Apple Tarte, and Lentils du Puy.

  It has been a while since I've made a quiche. When I would do an Easter brunch for family, I made a couple of different kinds of quiche. Quiche Lorraine is my favorite,

with Gruyere, of course.

  My first cookbook, I got from my aunt, for my 10th birthday. It is Betty Crocker's Cookbook for Boys and Girls. My mother did'nt let me make anything, but my grandmother did, at her house.

  I still have that cookbook and still use a few of the recipes, especially the one for Apple Crisp. It is SO good

warm with vanilla ice cream.

  The topping is butter, flour and sugar and tastes like a sugar cookie. I don't like the Apple Crisp recipes that use an oatmeal topping.

   The cool Fall weather is when I enjoy baking and always make the Apple Crisp, a family favorite for 60 years.

Re: Salade Nicoise

[ Edited ]

@Enufstuff  Oooj that's an absolutely GORGEOUS Salade Nicoise, Enuffstuff Smiley Very HappyHeart!  Thank you so much for taking the time to write down the recipe and including the beautiful photos of your finished platter of Salade Nicoise! Such a beautiful, delicious and nutrutious dish that you made Smiley Happy! I love all of the colors- the tuna dip, the bright yellow quartered hard boiled eggs, the "X" of bright crisp green beans, the beautiful red tomatoes next to the greens with the perfect pink shrimp and layered potatoes!

     Such an elegant salad on a cheerful yellow table cloth with matching patio furniture and I love the mint green and blue plates! I give you an A+++ on presentation and preparation. Wonderful job- I want to jump right through the page and eat it! I screenshot your photo and recipe so that I can make it in the future.  Thanks a billion! Smiley Very HappyHeart  You put so much thought into everything that you do and always add special touches- really lovely!
