Re: SWEETENED vs. SWEET TEA ... ANY DIFFERENCE?

[ Edited ]

I used to drink more tea than I do now but it never has sugar added, only a bit of milk. I can drink it black if need be. We haven't had any sugar in our house for years. We just don't use it in anything. If the tea is cold I don't add milk.

I have to say I'm a bit surprised at how much sugar is used in these brews!   Wow!

Like you, I don't use granulated white sugar in anything for humans.  However, I ALWAYS have sugar in the house to make food for my hummingbirds.

My alpha male hummingbird, Fritz, probably wouldn't like sweet tea.  lol  Woman LOL

@Tinkrbl44       It's the same thing.   Sweet tea is tea, sweetened with some type of sweetener.

Having lived in S Carolina a few years and now N Carolina my experience that "Sweet Tea" is iced tea with sugar (a lot of surgar.)

I love to read about how everyone makes their tea. We all have our favorite way of doing that. I am probably half made of tea, I drink so much. Love a delicious glass of tea. We eat places based on their tea. It's sometimes hard to find a good glass of tea when you're out. Seems like such a simple thing to do, have good tea at your restaurant. Woman Very Happy

 @Imaoldhippie ,Haha

or a little tea with sugar!

My southern grandmother made the best ice tea! Even if you didn't like iced tea, it was incredible and I did see her pour gallons of sugar in that pitcher, and yes while it was hot.

That is why I've often said-"sugar is good for what ails you!"

(not really but it sure does taste good!)"

and I don't remember lemon in it but I could be wrong.

Now if I drink hot tea which is usually not usually, its just hot, straight and really strong like my mother drank it. She's from the north and definitely not a southern girl.)

But if I had my southern grandmother's tea again, I would still love it!

No relative or friend of your grandmothers knew how she made it?  Darn!

Re: SWEETENED vs. SWEET TEA ... ANY DIFFERENCE?

@Tinkrbl44,

She rarely if ever? wrote or used recipes. I think that is the southern way-you know you just look and taste-a pinch of this a dollop of that. That is why I had to watch her making fried chicken and gravy for years before I got it right.

My father did write some of her "recipes" down but I don't remember her saying anything about the ice tea. She just kept pouring the sugar in until it tasted right!😄
