for me, I just like the taste/flavor or sweet potatoes 🍠 better than pumpkin and I think the texture too.

I have always chosen any pie, especially pumpkin over sweet potato pie, but this year I think I would have preferred the sweet potato pie. My sweet niece is making more items every year in her organic, no salt, no sugar, no substance and no taste cooking for our holiday meals. It did not even look like a pumpkin pie. I took one bite and that was it. When no one was looking I threw the rest away. I will be making a pumpkin pie for Christmas, I hope I can hold out that long since I did not get a pumpkin pie this week. Thank goodness she left her broccoli rice and cheese recipe alone for all of us gluttons. It was wonderful as usual.

I love Sweet Potato Pie, but do not care for Pumpkin, unless there is lots of whipped cream..I do , however love my Sister in Law's pumpkin squares.....Patti Labelle's Sweet Potato Pie is decadent!!!!!

If pumpkin or sweet potato pies are going to be eaten immediately, they can safely be left on a counter, not refrigerated. However, they will mold.

I've only had sweet potato pie once. I vastly prefer pumpkin. The texture of sweet potato pie is not a custard, and I think that mostly was what I was disappointed in.

Never had a sweet potato pie - we Yankees don't have opportunity to, I guess.
Love yams so assume sweet potatoes are the same (although Wegmens has 2 bins - one for each)............so first cousins.
Until this posting - afraid to confess I just don't care for pumpkin pie - a sliver will do.....then on to pecan or lemon

@fthunt As a fellow Yankee, I have never even seen a sweet potato pie in grocery stores along with all the other pies we have up here in N.E., have you? I love pumpkin pies. I also like sweet potatoes and have some at least a couple times a week since I don't usually eat white potatoes. So I think I might like sweet potato pie...only to try to find one now to try...LOL!
I think sweet potato & pumpkin pies are more of a regional delicacy & choice.

@Tinkrbl44 Pumpkin pie spices are more prominent and sweet potato jjust has the sweet potato taste with something extra. I like both to be honest. When someone knows how to make a sweet potato pie, it can be so delicious.

If you have a Walmart near you that sells food, get their Patti LaBelle's Sweet Potato Pie. They sell regular size pies, as well as those cute little 50 cent pies that are one serving. THAT pie is the one to try if you've never had one; they sell like crazy.
