From a southern girl who grew up with rice as a staple at most meals, no I don't.

Not generally, unless it specifically says to do so on the package.

I don't personally cook rice but my husband does.  He soaks his rice about 45 minutes before cooking.  He thinks it cooks better and tastes better.

Always! Ever since I lived in Japan I do it the old-fashioned way- fill the pan of my Panasonic rice cooker and wash and drain it until the water runs clear. That is how my Japanese neighbor taught me!  Smiley Happy

Both parents are from the south & no they NEVER rinsed riced as I was growing up.  However, after my mother's several trips to Japan & China, she taught my father (who did all the cooking) the same routine as Beach-Mom mentioned.

Sometimes I do, sometimes not.  I have a rice rinser bowl like the one above which is great, sometimes I just use the "claw" method and give it three quick rinses in the rice cooker bowl (for the trinity).   If I'm in a hurry I don't and can't tell that much difference.

We almost always use Jasmine or Basmati rice--brown and white--now.  I think they are for most things better rice than regular long grain.  We use a LOT of rice.
