Re: Recipes You Want to Try But

I might have in the past, but too many times I've been disappointed that I spent all that time and money and it wasn't as good as I expected it to be.

Re: Recipes You Want to Try But

My head starts spinning when there are over 5 ingredients......overwhelms me as I am not the greatest of cooks.  My most complicated dish is the one chiptole mac and cheese from Fleming's Steakhouse...

Re: Recipes You Want to Try But

I love to try recipes as long as I can find the ingredients which can be a challenge if it's something unusual.

I don't mind trying new recipes as long as it's no complicated and the list of ingredients isn't too long.  I do find recipes I'd like to try, especially for meals, it's pleasing my family and finding a recipe in the first place that I think everyone will like.

Re: Recipes You Want to Try But

I don't mind an ingredient-intensive recipe, as long as it's good.  Some of the ones I've written have quite a few ingredients but it's worth it.  Smiley Happy

Where I get stuck is if the recipe has ingredients that I don't like.  It's usually mayo or sour cream, canned soup (any dump cooking type of recipe), or something like that, or wine.  I don't like wine so if I had to buy a bottle of wine to complete a recipe then end up tossing the rest of it, I'd struggle with the waste part of it.

Yes @Imtep, I hear you. Too many ingredients & time-consuming too. Plus for me, only me & DH can't see it. I do like to try new recipes but then it's leftovers hanging around! But baking I love, however too dangerous to have those goodies around here!

Re: Recipes You Want to Try But

If the recipe calls my name, I don't mind complicated because I know from years of experience that all I need to do is read it through thoroughly then have everything measured out before I start.

That's more than half the battle.

The rest of the battle at my age is energy.

I agree with Chickenbutt about wine -- so often I don't make something that seems like it would be delicious because it calls for wine and maybe a substitute of broth or water would not do it justice.

If you really want to try something that could be absolutely delicious, go the extra mile to make it happen if you can.  It's so rewarding.

If it has cumin in it, not happening here!

I also won't make anything that needs to have egg whites folded into it.

Re: Recipes You Want to Try But

If i want to try a new recipe--I only do a half recipe--have thrown away more food due to it being just plain gross and all that food in the trash makes me sick----
