Re: Rangemate microwave gadget.

I love doing a grilled cheese in mine. I assemble the sandwich (don't over do the butter or it won't toast evenly) and pop it into the microwave around 3 minutes, then flip and do for 60 seconds or so. This depends upon the microwave. Mine is 1100W and about 10 years old.

Hamburgers are great along with a meat loaf, small of course. You basically make a meatloaf hamburger, which makes for a tasty sandwich. I love salmon in it as well, but make sure it is dry or little marinade or it might boil/steam instead of grill.

I bought it 2 months ago and have not even taken it out of the box. Might give it to my daughter. not sure yet.

tigris: How do you prepare the sandwich? I don't think I've made a grilled cheese sandwich in twenty years. Thank you!

I find it makes perfect poached eggs but it depends on the size of eggs and temp when you put it in.

After I got mine I kept begging for recipes on the forums but simply gave up.

Re: Rangemate microwave gadget.

You butter two slices of bread, place cheese of your choice in the middle with the butter on the outside and either toast in the RangeMate or in a skillet till toasty! It goes great with soups or on its own as comfort food!

Re: Rangemate microwave gadget.

Is it better in the Rangemate?

I tried lamb chops last week and over cooked them. I think the marinade I had used had them too wet and they didn't really grill.

Can you preheat the Rangemate?

Re: Rangemate microwave gadget.

I love mine for grilled cheese sandwiches, I preheat it for 1 minute, use good hearty bread and coat evenly with butter, add the sliced cheese and a couple of slices of tomato. Cook on high (with lid on) for 2.5 min, just check for browning, flip and cook another 45-60 sec. I have it w/soup, so good!! For some reason it just toasts/cooks better than on the stovetop. I have also used it for cooking salmon and it was delicious.

Re: Rangemate microwave gadget.

I did that all summer long with farm fresh tomatoes full of flavor! It was so, so good! I love tomato sandwiches with just mayo, but a grilled tomato and cheese sandwich. YUMMY! Try it with Havarti, Gouda, Swiss with black pepper, sharp cheddar, loads of different cheeses that are wonderful with tomatoes! Bacon is very good on there as well!
