Katey, I plan to cook the quinoa with some veggies (broccoli, peppers, onions) and then sprinkle shredded cheese over it.

always rinse quinoa, others a acidic coating on it that could upset some things Smiley Wink I buy a tricolored quinoa, its white, black/ brown and red...way better than just plain white. My local co-op sells it in bulk

Hey Katie,

Due to having stomach surgery, I no longer can digest rice! It is always important to rinse quinoa before cooking. The plant produces a bitter substance to discourage birds from stripping the plant. Quinoa is full of natural protein and extremely healthy. I use it in any recipe that I would normally use rice. On any of the large search engines you can find tons of interesting recipes...cold salads, casseroles and it even can be used for a warm breakfast meal similar to oatmeal. They also make it in pasta style!! Quinoa is an ancient food able to be traced as far back as the Aztecs.

I have tried to like this new fad of eating Quinoa. I HATE the taste of it. I've made several recipes using it and ended up just tolerating them. I'll eat healthy eating something else, thank you. Smile

Newer Quinoa have introduced 'Pre-rinsed' formulations. It is hard to rinse Quinoa unless you have a very fine sieve. I like to make it in my electric pressure cooker-easy. If you like trying different grains/seeds- look for spelt, farro, farrekah, etc. They are all a tasty, healthy alternative to white rice.

It's really versatile! When I cook it, I like to use chicken broth, or which ever flavor you prefer. It gives it tons more flavor.

It's the 'meat' in my spaghetti sauce, when I use jarred sauce. No meat for me!!

I throw it in my soups, salsa, macaroni and cheese, you name it!
