Cookie baking is over for 2020 with mixed results.  On one hand, we have the old trusty Sugar Cookie with decorations forthcoming.

On the other hand, we have a Major fail on the Spritz/Cookie Press batches after two different abysmal tries.  LOL

Here is the good

Sugar Cookies

Chocolate Cringles

Snowballs (Russian Tea Cakes)

Pizzelles

Here is the MEH

White Italain cookies

and last, totally least and will be totally forgotten:

The Spritz/Cookie Press cookies.

I made them last year and they were great!  First attempt was an all butter recipe.  They practically melted in the oven losing their design.  So I blamed the all butter

Try #2 was a butter & cream cheese recipe...which I used last year.  Slightly better but practically melted again.

The only thing I can guess is in both cases I WAY overmixed the batter.  After creaming the butters/cr cheese//sugars in the KA, I also added the dry ingredients in.

Mighta whipped it way too much even on the lower speed.

I think I should have added the dry by hand.  Otherwise, can't figure it out.

On the good hand, I found a new rolling pin that is the bomb.  It has wheels for different sizes so you get pefect thickness for every cookie...all the same.  saw it on TV on the Cookie Challenge.  BBB had the best price.  Took a little getting used to as I have always had a rolling pin w/ handles, but once I got the hang of it....perfect uniformity every time!

But actually....ssshh...don't jinx it...WE GOT SUN!

When I was out late last night....WE HAD STARS!

Haven't seen either of those in I betcha, 2 weeks!

Finally that grey, overcast is gone.  Even if for only one day...how glorious!

I am dodging the shadows on my computer screen!

Respect,

All those cookies sound delish.  I'm sorry that the cookie press ones did not turn out to your liking.  I don't know if you kept any of them, but, if you did, you might save them to repurpose for cheesecake crusts and toppings for ice cream, puddings, or pies.  I would put them in a plastic bag and crush them with your new rolling pin.  You could use the crushed ones as is or maybe add some crushed nuts.  Just a thought.

They are in the 'Make DH eat them all'  LOL

Some actually got trashed.  Gosh, I hate wasting butter at today's prices!

I think also, I take on too much at once and don't take my time.  With only having weekends to do everything, it seems like I don't do things well.

Respect,

Don't blame yourself.  I honestly believe that some of the people who make butter have changed something with their butter production/packaging practices in recent years.

Last year, I made several batches of different kinds of cookies.  I had a similar spreading thing going on.  It ended up that I only could give away a small percentage of the cookies I made.  It was clear that the "Spreaders" were the cookies made with Kirkland (Costco) brand or Land of Lakes butter).  The cookies made with Horizon organic butter turned out as expected.

WhiteWave Horizon Organic Unsalted 4 Quarters Butter, 1 Pound -- 18 per case.: Amazon.com: Grocery & Gourmet Food

Mr. Writer willingly volunteered  to take on the job of the RIHGD (Resident Inhouse Human Garbage Disposal)--a position he executed with both gusto and unbridaled enthusiasm when he dispatched all of those "defective" cookies.  Bless him!  He ate a goodly amount of them!

LOL!

Mr. Respect too!  I had a pile headed for the trash but he intercepted.  He thought they tasted fine.  But they are as UGLY as sin!  They will be great with coffee, he said.  He is nuts...LOL!

I count my calories so tightly, I am not wasting them on a meh cookie!  Ha!

I used Aldi's butter this year and last.  But I used the same butter for the snowballs and the cut outs which came out great.  So I dunno, I was so annoyed....I'm thinking it was the over whipping of the batter on the Spritz.  I would love to test that theory, but so far, I am 0 for 2 on the Spritz.  If I fail one more time, it will push me off the cliff!

Wish I could use Kerry Gold for my baking but I would only afford to make one batch then!  HEE!

I have at least one major fail every year.  I wouldn't mind it so much if it was a new recipe, but irks me to wreck one that came out perfect last year!

Re: @Re: Quick Pot Sticker Soup

And a bit of a sunny Friday it is!   WHEE!

Gosh, we have always been able to post links to a recipe before, but mine was deleted.

It is not a retail site at all and nothing is for sale so I am not sure why it wouldn't have been allowed.  It is just a food blogger recipe site.

It is a recipe for Texas Toast Cornbread and the site is Plain Chicken if anyone is interested.

Good morning Kitchenettes, happy Sleep Slightly Sleet-y Saturday my friends . . . Smiley Happy

I had some end of year paperwork I needed to finish up yesterday and I told myself I was not allowed to leave the house until it was finished (which I finally did) and was rewarded with an adorable little bone in beef roast for Christmas so I am beyond a happy camper right now (in spite of the fact it's dark and sleet-y).  The funny part was I was going there for a bone in pork roast but was almost run over by one of those Rascal riding customers who luckily backed me up to the exact spot of where the smaller roasts were located so I'm calling it a win and most thankful I still have all my toes intact . . . hee!

Hope you all are doing well and staying safe . . . Heart
