It is going to be a bumper crop of zucchini this year!

Who wants some?

OH, OH, OH ME, ME, ME!

@RespectLife

Have you ever fried the squash blossoms?   I see them crop up from time to time on shows like Chopped and it seems most chefs deep fry or pan fry.  Just wondered what they taste like.

Mustang and Respect,

     I tried (without success) to find my Ewell Gibbons books for his blossom fritters recipe.  I found this one online by someone else who referenced Ewell.

Ingredients

Batter:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • Dash of salt
  • 1 well-beaten egg
  • 1/2 cup milk

Blossoms

  • Blossoms (with enough of the stem left on them so you can place them in the oil) which have been rinsed and patted dry.  (You will dip them in the mixed batter later.)

Frying Liquid

  • 2  cups vegetable oil (for frying)

Directions

  • Mix flour, baking powder, salt, egg, and milk.
  • Heat oil to medium heat.
  • Dip flowers into the batter (coating them completely) and gently place them in the hot oil.
  • Flip the flowers over when the one side becomes browned.
  • Repeat for the other side.
  • Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.

Serving

Top with butter and syrup and/or dust with a mixture of confectioner's sugar and cinnamon and/or nutmeg.

These flower fritters are so beautiful!  Using the open flowers, they look like bells when they are done.  Exquisite!

I seem to remember serving these fritters with crisp bacon when I made them for my mom.

Thanks for your method! I am def going to try that with my zucc!

You just microwave it on a plate or something, not adding anything to it?

I took today off, so I will post that recipe next week. It was from wegmans.com but they used cod.

Respect,

     I microwave it on a bowl, since some of the water will be released when you microwave it .

From the look on Ina's face, it appears she has done a bit of "quality control" already by having a couple of glasses to make sure that the mixture was "just right" before the drink she currently is pouring.  I do believe ole Ina is snockered!

@Writer with Flair

Your recipe for fried squash blossoms is what I remember seeing.  I never thought about them being served with sweet toppings!   Can you describe the taste and texture?
