Well Thanksgiving at casa mtc has been saved as the lovely folks at Trader Joe's helped me find one of their last Turkey en Croute dinners:

Turkey & Stuffing en Croute

Hot dog day is officially cancelled!  Smiley Wink

eta:  Forgot to add I also snagged a jar of their Blue Cheese Mustard which should go nicely with said turkey dinner and also the small ham I bought.  Review to follow shortly

mtc,

That turkey in a crust dinner with the stuffing inside looks so good!  And, that Blue Cheese Mustard sounds divine.

Are you and Mr. Writer staying home for the holiday or volunteering or visiting with others?   May your holiday be safe and you all well fed.

Mustang,

This has been a rough year on several fronts and Mr. Writer and I are just plain pooped.  We plan to stay home.  I got a couple of turkey half-breasts a couple of weeks ago.  I roasted one in the oven and cooked one in my Instant Pot.  Both turned out well.  I sliced them and put them in the freezer.  I made a gravy from the drippings and a package of Simply Organics turkey gravy mix--which I also froze.  While I was at it, I  made some cranberry sauce.  It basically is just cranberries and Splenda.  It freezes well.

On Wednesday, I will make some low carb stuffing (Ezekiel Bread and riced cauliflower with onions, celery, shredded carrots, mushrooms, and sage) to go with the turkey.  I may also make a small, low carb cheesecake.

On Thanksgiving day, I will make some roasted vegetables (Delicata Squash, Brussels Sprouts, Butternut Squash, Red Onions, Broccoli, Asparagus, and possibly a Sweet Potato).  That will give us plenty of vegetable leftovers for the long weekend.

Attn Aldi Shoppers:  Ok, Aldi's Christmas decorations are beautiful this year.  I was able to get that wreath in the off white and a set of those icicle lights.  Those wreaths are very pretty and the solid red one is the best one.  Beautiful deep cherry red color.  I like mine but was a bit disappointed it has a bit of irresdescent glitter on the tips of the leaves so it's on probation until I can hang it up and see it in decent light (I'll post a picture if I can).

If anyone is looking for a cute, well priced Christmas wreath this one is adorable and almost made it into my cart but then I reminded myself what goes up must come down and be stored of which I have little space:

Trader Joe's Blue Cheese Mustard update:

It is of course delicious but unless you pair it with something that doesn't have a lot of flavor you miss the blue cheese.  My sample dunkers were:

  • French fries
  • Cheese sticks
  • Corn dogs

You could detect the blue cheese with the french fries but not so much with the cheese sticks and corn dogs.  I would think maybe on a ham or turkey sandwich you may pick up the difference but to be honest if you have a ton of mustards already, I wouldn't rush out to add this to your collection.

I am going to boil a couple of eggs to see if you can pick it up in egg salad just for snicks.
