Yep, I'd have to get a barn to keep the State Fair cow in LOL!

I would never actually cut into it & eat it. I have never been able to bite the ears off a chocolate Easter bunny either! Crazy - I know!

Your homemade bread sounds great. I got the stuff to make Lil' Bit Missty's pistachio loaf/bread this weekend - I'll be using "SQUARE" butter however!!!

RespectLife,

Count me in on that popcorn-extra butter, please! I'll bring a movie-what do you prefer? Comedy, romance, thriller....vintage?

ChiliPepper,

I think that's funny that you wouldn't eat the ears off the bunny! Never felt that way about chocolate- only the "real" thing! The butter cow; I don't know what they do with it. They have to show it under refrigeration at the fair because it is about 100 degrees plus in August in IL. I just cracked up the first time I saw it. I mean really, a life size cow out of butter! If you have lived in the city all your life and never saw a cow in person, you really have no idea just how big a cow is! I am talking a truck load of butter here! Butter cow nor not, you can't go wrong with one of Lil'Bit's recipes!

Mornin' Mustang & Kitchenettes! Yep, cows are huge aren't they? Such cute faces & beautiful eyes too. They make a butter sculpture at our fair too. Its a big secret every year what its going to be though. Sometimes its an animal, a child, a scene, whatever. Its sounds kind of hokey but it is fun to wait & see what its going to be. They put so much work into them. I too wonder what happens to the hundreds (thousands???) of pounds of "used" butter. Hopefully, it doesn't just get tossed. We will have to check into it this summer. Respect, I'm up for a movie too. I'll have to pass on the buttered popcorn though. I'm trying to train myself to eat air popped popcorn because its healthier but boy, it sure doesn't taste as good! I made LilBitMissty's pistachio bread yesterday. It was sooooo good & easy. It is sweet but not too sweet. And you do not need butter on it - its great plain. I love the nuts in it. I had to hold myself back - I could have eaten half a loaf LOL!

Hello ChiliPepper,

Good to see you today no matter how your tablet posts! Yes, I love cows but I think I just love farm life-always wanted to live on one. Wasn't blessed that way but no complaints as I have been blessed many other ways. You will have to try to remember to tell us what the butter sculpture turns out to be at your fair this year. Ours is always a butter cow but I think they do other sculptures, too as it seems one year I remember a chicken made from butter standing by the cow. If you google Il State Fair butter cow, you can read up on it-made from over 500 pounds of butter and once the fair is over, they use the butter for other sculptures. I thought at one point someone said the butter was expired and would be no good for food service anyway. Haven't been to the state fair in years now but since my grandson is getting to the age where he would enjoy it, will have to work it into the summer plans again.

Now that air popcorn would taste good with just a drizzle of that butter, wouldn't it? Since you have given up the oil to pop it in, I mean just a little butter in moderation.......! {#emotions_dlg.devil2}

Have a good day!

Good Monday Mornning, Ladies!

Well, my butter lamb is just the cutest thing! I got a 6 oz. for $6. He/She (haven't decided yet) has curly butter hair, a red ribbon, little black eyes and an Alleluia Banner on a little stick in his butt! LOL

The market was wonderful and I found just what I was looking for! Polish sausage and Perogis! I got cheese and potato...and sauerkraut and mushroom.

We had a feast that night and I cooked up some 'fresh' sauerkraut from Trader Joe's to go with it. My house still 'smells' from that menu!

Anyone suggest a good candle that actually gives off a GOOD scent? The last ones I bought were from Q, A Cheerful Giver and it did NOT give off a good fragrance!!

OH, P.S....I made the Baklava Cheesecake...see that thread if you are interested in the result.....suspense, right? I am on my way to that post right now.....

Respect,

I do wish you could post a picture of that little lamb - it sounds adorable! How do you plan to present it for your Easter? And what fun you must have had at that market this past weekend. Your dinner sounds wonderful and I'm sure with the cold weather you have had, it really hit the spot. My question is, with the market and fixing dinner AND making the cheesecake, when did you sleep?!

As far as candles are concerned, I think that is a personal preference. I have had good luck with Bath and Body Works candles, especially the fall and winter scents because I prefer a "heavier" or woodsy scent. I do like a couple of spring candles-their lilac reminds me of my DM's lilacs she had growing in the yard and would bring bouquets in the house and send home with me. They used to have one called pink tulip that I enjoyed as well but don't think they carry it any longer. I have never had good luck with Yankee Candles-they have a wonderful scent to me but no "throw" when they are lit. I have a candle I ordered from Pure Integrity but have not lit it yet so don't know how they smell when burned. I was given a candle from Gold Canyon by a friend but have to admit, I don't care for the smell of it in the jar so have never lit it-smells to me like old perfume. You may want to check out the candle thread on the For the Home forum here on the Q for their suggestions. http://community.qvc.com/forums/candles/index.aspx

And I addressed your success with that cheesecake on your post there - now I am waiting for a piece............

That's it! That's what I was trying to say....it doesn't THROW the scent! LOL You took the words right outta my head...cuz I sure couldn't find nothing in there this morning!

Same for me w/ Yankee...sniffs really good in the jar...but that's it! Nothing hits the air.

I had better luck when BB Works candles were all Slatkin candles. I can't find Slatkin there anymore or here on Q. Those seemed to really fill the room.

I also have much better luck w/ 3 wicks than 2.

I am going to check out that thread. Thank you for posting that! In the mean time, I will just have to enjoy my 'European' smelling kitchen (and house!)

I truly apologize for my total lack of tech knowledge. I sure would have loved to show you the little butter lamb.

Respect,

It's funny but I entirely forgot two candles that I do love-usually burn them in my kitchen because they are food scents BUT you may have problems finding at least one of them now. I like a candle from Walmart - their MainStays brand called pumpkin spice. And I agree with you, I like the 3 wick over 2 wick candles. They have the pumpkin spice in a huge pillar candle but forgot the price-very reasonable though, and also in smaller jars and votives. It is a fall/winter scent so unless you can score some in the clearance isle, you may have to wait until August or September before you can purchase one. Had one burning the other day in the kitchen when a contractor came to give an estimate on remodeling our kitchen and he could not stop commenting on how good it smelled.

The other candle I love is Banana Nut Bread by Our Own Candle Co. You can go on line to order but I find them in locally owned gift and antique stores. They come in mason jars with handles and cost about 8 dollars, give or take. They are a single wick candle but have found that the banana nut bread throws scent to the very bottom of that mason jar. This candle company has other scents as well but I have not had any luck with other scents although they do smell nice in the jar. The only one that has any throw to it to me is the banana nut bread.

Happy hunting!

oh thanks...I have a Super Walmart really close...maybe I will luck out and find the Mainstay Pumpkin & Spice.

I get caught up in branding sometimes...thinking the 'names' must be better...they cost more, right? I have never actually tried anything from the Mainstay label.

I wonder if I should try some of those melting pot type candle things. I have only used jars but have seen so many different types of gizmos that melt things that don't even have wicks. All I know is I have tried VPH Candles and A Cheerful Giver Candles both from Q and they were all a bust.

Maybe I should just bake a loaf of cinnamon bread? That should rid the house of my 'kraut' essence!
