How did Yazzy do yesterday?
Hi, mtc, I presume you have in mind the Trick or Treaters? Considering we have a long driveway behind a locked gate, and none of my neighbors believe in walking to their own mailboxes, much less up the road, we never have had doorbell ringing out here. There are more than 11 churches within 5 miles of me up on the main road, and most of them offer the Trunk-R-Treat concept (Do they do this up your way?) so the Sweet Seekers get bouncy houses, beanbag tosses, Corn Holes, music, and other entertainment before their trip down the row of decorated car trunks filled with candy beyond their wildest dreams of avarice. Kind of takes all the adventure out of it, but it's a lot safer than what Halloween has become. So far at least I haven't heard of any Trunks being robbed at gunpoint.
I am glad that both you and Yazzy had a peaceful Halloween . . . I had never heard of Trunk and Treat until I saw this on other threads on this board. I have to say I like it . . . please know I like what we used to do when I was little but I guess in this day and age that is a great alternative.
I am glad that you and Yazzy had a good evening @Honeybit . . . ![]()

Hey Chili...if you like Reuben/corned beef...have you ever tried Reuben Soup?
It is from Forrestwolf...I posted it here b4 I think but I have it handy if you want it.

Here ya go! I loved it! The notes about no celery and Claussen sauerkraut are from Forrestwolf. LOL...she hates celery...I like it.
Reuben Soup
Ingredients
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup sliced celery (NOT ME)
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup chicken broth
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons water
3/4 cup sauerkraut, rinsed and drained (I USE MORE, AND ONLY USE CLAUSSEN)
2 cups half-and-half cream
2 cups chopped cooked corned beef
1 cup (4 ounces) shredded Swiss cheese
Salt and pepper to taste
Rye croutons, optional
In a large saucepan, saute onion and celery in butter until tender. Add broth and baking soda. Combine cornstarch and water until smooth; gradually add to pan. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened.
Reduce heat. Add sauerkraut, cream and corned beef; simmer and stir for 15 minutes. Add cheese; heat until melted. Add salt and pepper. Garnish with croutons if desired.

AWESOME!!!!Thanks!!! How did I miss that SOUP recipe????
I like celery too, raw & cooked. There was someone on Food Network yesterday that didn't like ICE CREAM!!!! Now something is wrong with that person LOL!!!
I wonder why you rinse the sauerkraut? To get rid of the salt? Or probably the vinegar huh??? And Chili usually buys generic not Claussen (why just Claussen???) LOL!
Yepper, I'm all over that one!!!

I couldn't even find Claussen in Wegmans. I think you are right though....get rid of the salt?
I forgot to mention...
@momtochloe was it you who mentioned the show The Kitchen? Petra was desperate for some snuggle time...and Q was boring me to death with mixed shows (I hate when they show gift ideas....I like my shows to be themed)
Anyhoo...I found The Kitchen. What a great show! They did a demo of gadgets to see if they really work. It was fun. They did the gizmo from OXO that pops out the center of a cupcake so you can fill it. I have that thing in my wish list. It really worked good! Not that I make a lot of cupcakes, mind you...
They also did a taste test of different flavored boozes...NOW WE'RE TALKING! They gave it a 'try' or 'deny' rating.
Great show! I am going to have to set my TV to tape those. It never seems to be on at night when I am actually watching.
Thanks to who ever suggested it!!

@RespectLife I may have mentioned The Kitchen as on the weekends I do have a tendency to have Food Network on in the back ground. It is a good show with lots of different, interesting things depending on the theme for that day.

Yes, yes, yes, I love that show too!!! mtc & I were talking about it a few times.
I saw the cupcake thing also & decided I needed one too LOL!!! I saw one at TJ Maxx, only a few dollars.
Man, Jeff smoked GZ with the apple peeler didn't he??? LOL!!!
Around me its on at 11 AM Saturday & again at 1 PM Sunday.

Howdy
Quiet week for me so far. No complaints and I can get to the gym tonight.
re appetizers
I also make them as small meals, snacks or side dishes. I don't host parties anymore as I live pretty far out from work and old friends these days. When I bring something to a party, it's always a baked item.
Ellie Krieger and Canyon Ranch have great "small plate" recipes and I lean towards those.

Good morning Kitchenettes! Happy Terrific Tuesday my Friends!!!
We are supposed to hit 70 degrees today!!! Whoo hoo!!! I love it!!!!
So, I have David's cranberry-applesauce in the Crock Pot here at work with me. Should be smelling pretty good in here soon. I won't need to light my pumpkin spice candle today!!!
I made the chicken pesto soup last night. It was very good but you gotta like basil pesto (which I do). If you make it I would suggest starting with a little less pesto, you can always add more.
So whats happening today???

Good morning Chili, good morning Kitchenettes!
We must live next door to each other Chili because we have the exact same weather . . . so gorgeous! ![]()
I have a Trader Joe's Korean Pork Shoulder in the oven and it smells delicious. I can't wait to try it. I hope it tastes as good as it smells! Maybe I'll try making a small batch of scallion pancakes to go with it . . . ![]()
