Dear Kitchenettes,

     I couldn't remember if I told you about a little excitement we had the Saturday before last.  We were awakened by two bobcats having a terrible fight outside our bedroom window.  Yikes!  Welcome to the wild west!

     DH called animal control because it was such a fierce fight.   There are several elderly early morning walkers in our area and he was concerned about them.  He was surprised to learn that animal control would not come out unless someone had been hurt by the animals.  They said that they did want people to report sightings of the animals, though, so they could keep track of them.

ARGH @Writer with Flair

Well that outta startle ya right out of a good sleep!

Last spring/early summer we had some SCREAMING outside.  Seriously, some small animal was getting eaten alive.

Come to find out, Red Fox scream like that!  Mating etc....but zeesh!  It was blood curdling!

Ok @Writer with Flair  I thought I had the Wild Kingdom Story of the Day but you win!  Yikes, bobcats?  I am glad no humans were involved in that fight and hope that folks with pets know they are in the area!

Mine is much more funny than scary.  Last night I was watching TV and kept hearing this . . . sound.  Took a couple of minutes but I realized it was probably a cat (which kind of surprised me as I have never seen unclaimed animals roaming around here).  Then about 30 seconds into his solo his voice was joined by a louder vocal (must be mating season?).  Anywho they started making such a racket that the Hall Monitor next door flew out on the balcony and started screaming at them.  One took off like a rocket but the other one stood their ground for quite a while hissing at her.  Hee.

Attn Aldi Shoppers:

If anyone is in the market for some additional light (like under a cabinet or a closet) Aldi has a wonderful option this week for only $10 w/batteries.  I bought one and just love it.  Has both manual and motion sensing settings, high/low settings and a 30/60 minute timer.  Provides brackets for a permanent install but also 3M strips for those of us without a power drill.  You get a lot of bang for your buck with these things!

Was interested in your comments about the lights available at Aldi.

If you've tried them, can you say whether the "shade" of the light given out is bright white, sort of yellowish (like soft white bulbs), or a fluorescent type of blue?

@Writer with Flair

I've heard and seen cats fighting, heard the crying-like-a-baby sound of a cat either in heat or looking for one in heat, seen rabid animals acting crazy....and I've heard some type of animal screaming during an attack outside our house at night--probably a rabbit vs. a fox.....rabbits can scream bloody murder when they're sick and probably when they're being slaughtered.

But a full-blown bobcat battle ??

  Yikes, I thought the foxes and coyotes I used to see in our yard up in  Virginia were beasts to avoid.

Stay safe.  Watch your back!

@novamc1I am so pleased with that light, I wish I had bought another one.  I would say the color is bright white on high and takes on more of a slightly bluer shade on low.  It is bright on High (lights up the whole albeit small kitchen).

Please let me know if you (or anybody else) needs any further description/information regarding them as I think they are a great purchase for only $10.
