Thanks to @mustang66lady and @VaBelle35 for the tummy trouble recommendations as I am always on the lookout for them.  Very much appreciated!

It has been a quiet day here on the soup thread-hope all Kitchenettes are just having a quiet day with their loved ones or just relaxing because it is too hot to do anything else!  I can hear thunder in the distance and it got cloudy but so far, no rain.  The humidity is so thick, you could cut it.

Well, if you all try the ginger, I hope you have success with it!   I think I have only made one recipe with that ginger and can't remember what it was!  We have used the first bottle for tummy troubles and are well into our second jar.  But will have to say, that first jar lasted about a year so it's not like we are taking it daily.

@VaBelle35

We are interested in the Andrew Lessman vitamin line.  Do you mind sharing what you use and have you noticed any improvements?  I have to take vit D because I just don't seem to "hold" it anymore.  I think that is the only one I take that the doctor has told me to take, but we take other supplements like glucosamine chondroitin, etc.  Just would like to hear your opinions on his line and why you chose it over any other.  Thanks!

Good evening everyone.

It was a light cooking weekend for me.  I made this roast chicken that I like to make in the summer.  It's not very lemony, it just gives it a brightness.

Perfect Roast Chicken (Ina Garten)

If you want a lemony-er version, her Engagement Chicken will do the trick:

And I made this:

Spaghetti Squash with cheese sauce (I don't put the peas or green onions in it, I just put the milk and cheese):

@mustang66lady

re Andrew Lessman products

I like his products because they are made in the USA and I know I can return them without question.

I take a lot.  Here is what I posted back in September on the Wellness thread.  I updated it with additional stuff I take.

======================================

I came very late to the supplement party.  Over the years, I have had doctors who were for and against taking a multivitamin.  My last gyn suggested I take something, so I did the uneducated thing and did gummis and Flintstone vitamins for a while and then decided to try Nature's Code.  I loved NC.  I had no problems taking it (I took my packet at lunch).  I never felt better than when I was on it.  I tried Andrew Lessman's multivitamins with Fish Oil at one point during my NC years.  I think I saw a presentation.  I got about 1/2 way through my vitamins when the second cannister has a broken fish oil capsule and it stunk up the joint.  Couldn't finish them and went back to NC.

At one point I stopped NC again and went to Centrum Silver chewables and then went back to NC.

In August 2013, I had just finished yet another round of antibiotics for a sinus infection.  I was traveling non-stop for work and I was constantly getting sick (sinus infection, female issues, sinus infection, female issues, and around and around it went for 2 years).

I stopped NC when Dr. Rouse left and they brought in the new representative.  QVC could not confirm for me if NC would continue to be updated and who would be doing the updating, so I cancelled my AD and switched to Andrew's Women's Complete 100 Max in September 2014.

That's when I started watching the shows and got interested in supplements.

On Halloween 2014, I did a Whole30 (30 days of food elimination to see if anything I was eating was contributing to my nasal allergies.  Sadly, food was not the issue.  At the end of my 30 days, I switched to the Primal Blueprint, a Paleo-type diet based on whole foods.

In November 2014, I had a complete physical and blood workup. I had another complete physical with blood workup in September 2015.

Here's what I take.

Women's Elite 200 - (contains 200 mg of CoQ10) I just switched to this one from ProCaps in April (I was taking Women's Elite 100).  This also has Luetein and Zeaxanthin for eyes.

Fibermucil/Cholestacare -  My family is 100% heart disease on both sides, so this product spoke to me.  While my cholesterol is "normal" and in a good range, it is something I watch closely and take serioulsy.

Vitamin D - I started taking this after I got my bloodwork back last November.  My D was 46 and both Mark Sisson (Primal Blueprint) and Andrew say they like their D to be in the 70s.  So I will see how my D is this year and adjust accordingly.  In my 2015 bloodwork, my D was 39, so I am now taking 5000 mg a day and will see what the number is in September and adjust accordingly.

Astaxanthin - I started taking this because I have dry eyes and my doctor wants me to eat flax seed (2T per day) or flax seed oil.  This has flax seed oil in it and it is also good for your eyes.  I personally don't notice a change taking this, so I will not reorder.

Maximum Joint Effort (Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM)

Turmeric & Ginger

Circulation & Vein Support -IMy mother's side of the family has very bad arthritis.  I also work out a lot and fly on airplanes a lot.  I think these are crucial for my joints.  I have one knee that annoys me (I've fallen on it, slammed it into things and just generally abused it over the years).  Honestly, I don't notice anything by taking these, but I continue to take them because the research suggests they are beneficial and they are not expensive.

Ultimate Women's Wellness - I discontinued BCPs in April of this year after 27 years.  I though this might help with the transition.  I didn't notice a difference, so I switched to Positive Passage.  After 2-3 months I was wondering why I felt off and decided to go back on the UWW and felt amazing.  I've added PP back in as well because I think it helps, too.  If I am feeling the waves of sadness, I take B12 complex and this one I notice immediately, like in 30 minutes.  I take one every morning and more as needed.

Ultimate Friendly Flora and Cranberry Benefits -  I had been taking Culturelle but stopped when I started taking the Fibermucil as that has probiotics in it.  The UFF has a lot more than Fibermucil, so I think it's a good addition.  Especially since I tend to take a lot of antibiotics.

Marine Collagen and Health Hair Skin & Nails - The MC intrigued me when he first presented it.  While my hair, skin and nails are good, I did have some nail damage that wasn't clearing up from overfiling, a deep bruise on my leg where I smacked it on the corner of the dishwasher many, many months ago that has not healed but is now almost completed faded out and a few other skin things where I've noticed a change.  MC is the one product where I noticed a difference.  I also think it contributes to the complements I've been getting recently (see below). My nails and hair do seem to be growing faster.  I go to the salon every 2 weeks and she had been cutting them every time I go now. My eyebrows are insane.  I might have to switch to every 3 weeks vs every 4 weeks (or cut back the supplement to every other day).

In one show, Andrew cited a study done on protein in people over 50.  It had to do with spreading out the protein throughout the day.  I read the study and it talked a lot about exercise recovery.  I take these together first thing in the morning and last thing before bed.  I mix it in bone broth or flavored water.  I just mix enough to make a shot.  Like 1/4 cup of liquid.  I do notice a difference during the day that I am less hungry and can go to about 1pm before eating breakfast most days.

Energy & Fat Metabolism and Urgent Energy - I love these.  I take the E&FM on days I go to the gym for cycle.  I also take it on days I have long meetings or long days of travel.  I take Urgent Energy for when I work out in the morning.  I think E&FM lasts longer and throughout the day and I get so much work done, I feel very focused and clear headed.  I think UE is more immediate.

Immune Factors - this one spoke to me because I fly a lot and go to the gym a lot and those are just breeding grounds for germs.  I take this any day I am leaving the house.

Brazil Nuts - I eat one a day.  I consider this a supplement.  It is the easiest supplement you can take.  I buy conventional as I read organic isn't necessary for nuts.  Conventional brazil nuts are huge, so one is enough.  Organic tend to be smaller, so you may need 2 of those.

Night Time - I love this one.  This is especially helpful when traveling, changing time zones and staying in hotel rooms.  A good night's sleep is key to having a good day the next day, making good food choices and having energy to do what I'm there to do.  I am interested in tryin Valarian as mentioned above.

Breath + - Colleen talked me into this.  She just happened to mention it and they talked about it briefly as an aside, it wasn't presented.  I like it.  I use it at lunch time when I go into the office. Like Colleen, I bite into one and swallow one.

Calcium/Magnesium and K2-MK7 - This is my most recent addition, when it was the TS last year.  Cal/Mag is important as we age and I read a lot of studies about K2-MK7 when I purchased it in the bundle.

Before I order, I look at the studies on pubmed.org and I look at safe upper limits and length of time something has been studied.  I don't order blindly.

Glad to hear you are on the mend.  That kind of thing does take it out of you for a few days.

Actually what I have is Australian Chrystalized Ginger that I buy in jars from Penzey's.  It is shelf stable and we find it works better than TUM's or Rolaids when we have stomach issues.  Like I said, it does have a little bite to it but it is not too bad.  We chew 3 or 4 pieces, maybe more or less depending on how we feel.  Works faster than drinking ginger ale, which doesn't always have enough ginger in it to do the trick for me.

This is good to know. I added it to my list for the next time I order from Penzeys.

I also like Andrew Lessman's peppermint tea.  I got a sample of it in an order and saved it for a day that I wasn't feeling well and I was amazed at how quickly it worked.  I went and bought another organic brand at Wegmans and it doesn't work as well (and doesn't taste as nice).  So while his is more expensive and less convenient to buy, it is definitely worth it to have it hanging around.  And it's nicely sealed in foil packages, so it will last a long time in my cool basement.

     Thanks, VaBelle, for the info on Andrew Lessman's tea.  I'll have to get some to keep on hand.  I appreciate the tip.

     Thanks also for the information you shared on the supplements you take.  I have heard that just about everybody these days is deficient in Magnesium and Vitamin D.

     I also appreciated those recipes you shared.

     We are big fans of spaghetti squash.  I bake it, scoop it out, and then cut the strands up with kitchen shears until they are about the size of grains of cooked rice.  I then take an egg and a little milk or cream and whip it up with some fresh ground nutmeg, vanilla, little cinnamon (and/or cardamon), and two teaspons of arrowroot (you could also use flour or cornstarch).  I bake it at 350 degrees until it is set.  It makes a great rice pudding substitute.

     In fact, if you alread have a rice pudding recipe that you like, you can substitute the spaghetti squash for the cooked rice.

     You can also add currants, regular raisins, or craisins, if you like, to the mix before you bake it.

     If you are not using dried fruit, you can top the cooked pudding  a dollop of plain Greek Yogurt or Quark, a drizzle of honey, and a sprinkling of pistachios sprinkled on top for a Middle Eastern touch.

@Writer with Flair  I have never had rice pudding, but that actually sounds very good with the spaghetti squash.  I have to try that.

@momtochloe  That recipe makes very little cheese sauce, it's really for the tiny organic spaghetti squash, so you might want to double the sauce for a large squash.
