Oh Chili that is too funny! I have seen tons of recipes using saffron...but I don't think I ever purchased it. To be honest...the spice pantry has gotten a little over stuffed! Now I can make saffron when needed! LOL! Thanks for sharing!! Now I just have to find all those recipes requiring saffron!! Def. rice...I know I have seen that!

Oh Mustang...I am so glad you are safe. I have been ill and off the boards...and then yesty the internet was down all day. I am so glad you let us know you were okay. That hail can certainly do damage...not to mention what flooding does!

I have never heard of Italian Nachos! It does sound delicious! I'm w/ Writer...I don't fry but like she said...sure gonnna keep my eyes open for that at a restaurant!!

Hi Kitchenettes!

The last few days have been really busy and I don't see much end in sight for awhile. Making that kennel under the stairwell has started a whole bunch of projects and here it is about time to plant flowers for summer and get the decks ready for summer! Too much work and too little time and help.

Saffron from turmeric-who knew?!! I have to admit I don't know if I have any recipes using either spice so obviously don't have either in my spice stash. I probably have had recipes and passed them over for lack of other uses for the spice. I hate to spend money on spices that I rarely use or don't know if I will use again-I don't like them to expire and lose flavor because I don't use them enough. Hope you two find some good recipes for your turmeric/saffron and share them with us!

Respect,

Like you and Writer with Flair, we rarely fry anything and I will never make the Italian nachos at home but they were such fun to try. My DH and DD about fell over when I said I liked them because I believe I am the only person on earth that doesn't care for pasta! {#emotions_dlg.scared} When I saw those on the menu, I had to try them! Glad we did and since I have no love affair with pasta, we probably won't go back to that place real soon, although they had a lovely menu with non pasta items, too. Even if we do, will not order these on a regular basis, but maybe every once in awhile.........

And thank you for your safe wishes. Storms/tornados are a way of life in most of the middle of the country and I think for the most part, no matter how much you prepare, it is always intimidating. Doesn't much matter where you live, it seems each area has its' own weather burden of some sort. Nice to know that others keep you in their prayers and thoughts.

Have a nice evening.

Glad to hear from you mustang! That kennel is a terrific idea! For us Northerners...storms like that are a hard thing to fathom. The unexpectedness of them! When a blizzard is coming...we know. It may be heavier or longer or wetter...but it is there on the screen for all to see, about to hit. It always amazes me they tell us for 2 days it is coming yet many are caught unprepared! Or THEN decide it is a good time to take a trip and blame the rest of the world when they are stuck on the highway (we call them thruways) for 3 days! LOL

But tornadoes! The conditions are there but you still don't know if one will hit or not! Yikes!

I am guilty of buying an ingredient for one recipe all the time~I swore I was going to stop that...yet....hee hee!

Mornin' Mustang, Respect, Writer, Preds & all other Kitchenettes!

Just a quicky to say "Hi" (so busy lately) & keep in touch (& move this to the top LOL!!!).

Sunny but cool here today but that's ok with me. Most of our snow is gone (thank you, thank you, thank you!!!). My daffodils are peaking up out of the last of the snow & ice piles so life is grand. I hope you are well & safe.

I agree about NOT buying spices for just one recipe - I don't do that anymore either. All this talk about Penzy's, Spice House & turmeric made Respect & I think about uses for spices we had on hand. I still need to pull ALL of them out of the cupboard & really look them over. Some of mine I know are quite old but Respect has A BRAND NEW BOTTLE OF TURMERIC we're trying to help her use up. That is our mission!!!! That made us think of other spices we have that we hardly ever use & JUST HOW OLD ARE THEY???

Anyways, my Spring cleaning this weekend will include my spice cupboards but, hey, ya gotta start somewhere right???

LOL...we must have hit a lull at work at the same time!! Crazy lately, huh? Maybe it just seems nuts because I have been sick...turned into bronchitis....but am slowly feeling better. Just lousy all over. I was so thrilled I made it through the bitter winter w/o getting sick once. Me and my BIG mouth!!

I am still needing soup even though it has warmed up weather wise. I am thinking either Potsticker Less Soup (since I ate them all!) Maybe use some Angel Hair Pasta instead. I can just taste the warm chicken broth w/ sesame oil....OR the chowder recipes that are on the other thread. Like a tomato based chowder...I dunno...something warming for my tummy!!

Good Evening Kitchenettes!

I am tired after cleaning all day today. It was warm, mostly sunny after it burned off some morning fog. I had the windows open and could hear the birds singing all day and now I hear the tree frogs. We had them so bad last year we could hardly sit outside and enjoy it because they were so noisy. And I don't appreciate when they jump on me either!

I know what you are talking about Chili, with those spices. I did a huge clean out last year. I fell in love with the anniversary vintage blue mason jars and bought those and put most of my spices in those-the ones I go thru the fastest. Would like to buy some of the smaller mason jars for spices I don't use often but have no room to store those. I am happy for you that your snow is almost gone. I can't imagine still having snow, although I think one of our weather people said the record in St. Louis was May 2 or 6th! Enjoy those daffodils-mine are about done for the season but my Lily of the Valley are getting ready to bloom now.

Oh Respect, I'm so sorry you are/have been sick. Bronchitis isn't anything to mess with. I had pneumonia this past winter and I know what you mean about just being worn out. Wish I could make a pot of soup and some homemade bread for you. I don't remember being as worn out as I was with the pneumonia, not even when I had cancer. You just rest, drink lots of fluids and do what you can. You will know when you over do things.

Yes, it is nerve racking to suddenly hear the tornado sirens (most communities here have them) going off and the sky usually looks pretty funky when the conditions are right for a tornado. Most people have things ready in their basements to take shelter but not everyone is lucky enough to have a basement. My parents never did and we just prayed-A LOT! My parents never got too shook up over the storms though. Daddy always said when it was your turn to go, it didn't much matter where you were or what you were doing. I always thought I don't mind that, just don't want to be swept away in the storms though.

I will be looking forward to some recipes using that turmeric when you feel well enough to post some. Maybe you will inspire me to purchase a small container of it!

Good night everyone and have a restful night.

So I went home last night to make some soothing Potsticker-Less soup.....and ended up with some Sausage Mexican creation instead.

Do you ladies ever do that...I opened the freezer to get some chix and stir fry veggies...came out with the sausage instead. Have NO idea how I got off on that tangent since I longed for chix broth w/ sesame oil all day! LOL

I put together sweet Italian sausage, celery, yellow and red peppers and onions. I used a large can of crushed tomatoes and 4 containers of beef juice. When I purchase roast beef in the deli they always give you free AuJus and I freeze them for soup.

Then I added black beans, chick peas and quinoa. My spices were anything red that passed my eyes...LOL. Southwest seasoning, chipoltle, adobo, tomato powder. To that I added some cumin, cilantro and multiple garlic flavorings as well as ground pepper. Then I added a few shakes of turmeric for my buddy Chili. I figured with all the other spices I had in there...a few shakes wouldn't hurt since I have to use it up! I had it so 'Mexican' you couldn't taste it.

I had a hunk of crusty bread to go with it. It was delicious but not what I set out to cook at all!

Hey Respect, whoo hoo!!! 1/32nd of a teaspoon more gone! Actually, your soup sounds really good. And yes, I do that too when I make soups or casseroles. I am kinda cheap & I hate to waste so I freeze little bits of vegies & leftovers & they all go in the pot. Personally, I think Italian sausage gives nice flavor to most things so when I get some I cook up a bunch, crumble it up & freeze it to throw in everything. I'm so glad you are feeling better - I've been thinking about you.

I've been thinking about you too Mustang. The storms & sirens & all must be frightening. I say a little prayer at night that my "People" are all safe & sound & my new Kitchenette friends are included in that prayer.

Well, back to work - check in later.

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!
