@ScrapHappy I have 100% solid pumpkin.  Is that OK to use?

@rms1954  If you're referring to 100% canned pumpkin, yes, that is what you need.  It's the same as pumpkin puree.  What you DON'T want is the pumpkin pie mix because it's not pure pumpkin and has other ingredients in it.

Got it.  Thanks.  Went to get all ingredients but no cake mix.  Nothing but chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry.  Will try Walmart tomorrow.

I haven't been able to find Spice Cake Mix in ages.

 

I have made similar recipes to this and just used a box of vanilla and spiced it up!

 

Using pumpkin pie spice added to the dry cake mix....or a blend of cin, nutmeg, cloves etc.

 

They have all come out great! 

 

Just a thought.

Thought to try that same thing.  However, went to Walmart and they had their own brand of  spice cake mix so I grabbed two.
