Ladies, Have you ever had a recipe flop that you have made successfully in the past? I decided to make spritz tonight using an old recipe that uses shortening instead of butter. I haven't made them for years; the recipe is my mil's & I wanted to make them to take to her. She is in a memory care unit. They were always nice & flaky. These were heavier, dry & stuck to the pan. The only thing that is different is the Crisco is trans fats free. Do you think this could be the problem?
Here is the recipe:
1 C shortening
3/4 C sugar
3 egg yolks
1 tsp vanilla or almond (or 1/2 tsp each)
2 1/4 C flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
pinch of salt
Cream shortening & sugar; stir in egg yolks & flavoring. Combine dry ingredients & add. Fill cookie press with dough & press onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes.
