@jaxs mom I don't keep corn syrup, or molasses on hand.

Oh my recipe doesn't use either, it uses real maple syrup instead. It does use brown sugar though.

@Mom2Dogs, if there is a TJ's close to where you will be I would recommend calling ahead to make sure they have them in stock and they will also hold one for you so you don't drive there and end up leaving empty handed . . . Smiley Happy

@Mom2Dogs Thx for sharing that recipe. It sounds pretty good. Since it's the recipe you make is it not as sweet as traditional pecan pie.

@Mom2Dogs

I am guessing that you mean you would make individual pies in a jar and serve one jar to each person for dessert.  If that is what you meant, I found this recipe at Allrecipes – maybe it will help.

Traditional Pecan Pie in a Jar

  • Prep                 25 m
  • Cook               48 m
  • Ready In         1 h 43 m

Recipe By:Culinary Envy

"Traditional Pecan Pie in a Jar has a deeply toasted, sweet, luxurious flavor. Just break through the caramelized, crispy pecan topping to expose the amber-colored rich filling and flaky crust inside. Serve with sweetened whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, if desired."

Ingredients

  • 2 cups pecan halves, broken into coarse pieces
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 3/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup dark corn syrup
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 8 half pint canning jars with lids and rings
  • cooking spray
  • 2 unbaked 9-inch pie crusts

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spread pecans on a baking sheet.
  2. Bake pecans in the preheated oven until lightly toasted, 6 to 8 minutes. Cool to room temperature.
  3. Bring sugar, light corn syrup, and dark corn syrup to a boil in a saucepan; boil for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and cool slightly, about 10 minutes.
  4. Whisk eggs in a large bowl until frothy. Add syrup mixture slowly, whisking constantly to prevent eggs from curdling. Whisk in butter, vanilla extract, and salt until batter is smooth.
  5. Spray 8 small jars with cooking spray. Press pieces of pie crust dough into bottom and sides of jars. Add a layer of toasted pecans to each jar. Spoon in batter, leaving 1/4 inch rim at top.
  6. Bake in preheated oven until darkened on the top, about 40 minutes. Cool to room temperature before serving.

@Havarti....I really like this idea....what I planned to do was use my mini pie pans to make several small pies, but this jar idea is interesting.

@Mom2Dogs  I've been making that recipe for years and I can't remember the last time I ate a pecan pie with corn syrup to be able to compare it to. The recipe is sweet though. I'd compare it to the way that 100% pure maple syrup has a different sweetness than pancake syrup like Mrs Butterworths or Log Cabin which are made with corn syrup

By the way, since that recipe was written maple syrup grading has changed so where I used to buy grade B I now get grade A dark and it tastes the same to me as grade B did.
