Our daughter knows DH and I love pears, so for Christmas she gave us a box of winter Royal Riviera heirloom pears from Harry & David. It was a HUGE box with A LOT of pears. We stood there, wondering how we could ever eat all those pears.
I suggested she make a crisp or crumble, so she did and it was incredible. She found a Paula Deen recipe online which I'd like to share since it was so easy and came out well.
Paula suggests adding a little water but those on comments agreed it wasn't needed. There's A LOT of butter in the crisp, some might want to cut down on that. DD added an extra pound of pears since we had so many. I like it served warm. You can also top it with cream or ice cream if you like.
PEAR CRISP
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Combine pears, water and lemon juice in an 8 by 8-inch baking pan. In a bowl, combine oats, flour, sugar and cinnamon. Pour in the melted butter and stir to make a crumbly mixture. Spread the topping evenly over the fruit. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes or until the topping is crisp and browned.

I used to love the crisps and cobblers my grandmother made when I was a child, this was a nice treat ![]()

Sounds good. Warm apple crisp with cheddar cheese is my favorite homemade dessert in the fall and winter. I have never tried it with pears.

My grandpa was ahead of his time (he cooked). He used to make the best apple pie. I always remember him saying "Apple pie without the cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze". I make apple crisp instead because I hate making pie crust.

There are so many varieties of pears. What type of pear do you think Royal Riviera is comparable to?
Bosc pears are so delicious, but I think Anjou are the sweetest.
Thank you for the recipe!
