That sounds like a tasty treat....I'll bet "hard to chew" doesn't slow down the rate of consumption!Smiley Wink

Re: Peanut clsters

Here's how I make Butterscotch Haystacks:

1 cup butterscotch chips

2 tsp vegetable oil

1 1/2 cups chow mein noodles

1/2 cup dry-roasted peanuts

Melt chips in microwave at 50% power, stirring until smooth.  Stir in oil.  Gently fold in noodles and peanuts to coat.  Drop tablespoonfuls onto parchment-lined baking sheet.  Refrigerate until set.

My nephew makes these candy clusters to bring to the family holiday gathering:

2 cups pretzel sticks broken into small pieces

1 cup dry-roasted peanuts

1 cup milk chocolate chips, melted

1/2 cup mini M&Ms

Stir pretzel pieces and nuts in bowl.  Mix in melted chocolate chips.

Spoon tablespoonfuls onto parchment-lined baking sheet.  Sprinkle a few M&Ms over tops of clusters.  Refrigerate to harden.

@Luvsmyfam

I make those. The Haystack recipe I use calls for a tablespoon of shortening. I have made them with & without it. I notice they seem harder without it. I don't put marshmallows in it.

Butterscotch Haystacks

1 c butterscotch chips
1/2 c peanut butter chips
1 T crisco (not oil)
2 1/2-3 c broken chow mein noodles
3/4 c cocktail peanuts

Microwave chips & shortening slowly stirring as it melts.
When smooth add noodles & nuts.
Drop by tablespoon on wax paper
Refrigerate til firm.
Makes 2 dz depending on size

@Luvsmyfam   Maybe putting them in an airtight container with an apple slice, or half an apple, which some cookies require to prevent hardening, would work.
