My mother loved canned peas and I hated canned peas. That was always a stand-off because I would sit at the dinner table until dark because I would not eat canned pea salad!

Not tried and true, but sound delish!
KINCAID'S-STYLE PEA SALAD
· 1/4 cup mayonnaise
· 1/4 cup sour cream
· 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
· 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
· 1 (10- to 12-ounce bag) frozen baby peas, thawed
· 1/4 cup snow peas, strings removed ??
· 1 can water chestnuts, diced
· 2 tablespoons red onion, cut in 1/4-inch dice
· 3 strips bacon, chopped, cooked until crisp, and drained*
Blend together mayonnaise, sour cream, salt and pepper to make dressing. Combine peas, snow peas, water chestnuts, red onion and bacon with dressing until ingredients are well coated. Transfer to a flat container. Refrigerate at least 24 hours before serving. Stir twice to redistribute dressing. Serve within two days.
One from Taste of Home used Ranch Dressing instead of Mayo and sour cream.

Crunchy Pea Salad
2 10 oz. packages frozen peas (thawed)
1 c. shredded cheddar cheese
1 can water chestnuts (sliced and drained)
1 Tablespoon onion (chopped)
3/4 c. celery
3/4 c. mayonnaise
salt & pepper to taste
Make day before...so far this has been my favorite pea salad recipe

This is our favorite. It's delish. Though not lowfat.
Pea Salad
Family Circle Aug 2009
1 bag (16 oz.) frozen peas
1 cup mayonnaise
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper, or to taste
Kosher salt, a few dashes to taste (optional, not in original recipe)
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese or a mix of cheeses
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (I use freshly grated but packaged is fine)
Place peas in a colander and run under cold water until just thawed but still cold. Allow to drain (or pat dry with paper towels), then place in a large bowl. Stir in mayonnaise (add more or less according to taste).
Add onion, black pepper, a bit of Kosher salt if desired, and cheeses. Mix well. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

I would only use frozen (thawed, not cooked) peas.
IMO, canned peas aren't good. Some enjoy though, so it's just personal preference.

This is one I've made for several years, so, yes....tried and true.
HIDDEN VALLEY RANCH CRUNCHY PEA SALAD
10 oz fresh or frozen peas (thawed)
1 cup diced celery
1 cup fresh cauliflower florettes
1/4 cup diced green onion
2 T. chopped pimento (optional)
1 cup chopped cashews*
1/4 cup crisp cooked crumbled bacon
1/2 cup sour cream
1 cup prepared Hidden Valley Ranch Original Salad Dressing
Combine all ingredients. Chill.
* Macadamia nuts or salted sunflower seeds are a good substitute.
Serves 4.

Wow--thanks for all the recipes and I know I can look online for them--just nice to have recipes that are tried and true. And the thing I said about a little healthier versions---yeah--let's forget that, OK?!!
I won't be eating this everyday so I want good flavor. I'm not really a pea fan anyway but I do like them raw and in this salad. I bet edamame added would be good too.

Do not use canned peas! Use only fresh (the best) or frozen. I have a delicious peas salad recipe but it has bacon, mayo & green onions in it. Sounds like you don't want that. It's an old recipe & I don't even like peas.

I have been making "Seven Layer Salad" (pea salad) for many many years and it is requested everywhere I go.
Layer in order
One head chopped lettuce , one layer of chopped celery, one layer of chopped green pepper, one layer of frozen peas, one layer of dressing (consisting of Hellmans Mayo and sugar), I use about two cups Hellmans and 1/2 c sugar. Then one layer of shredded cheddar cheese and the last layer is crisp fried bacon chopped up. This is a very delicious salad. I try to let my lettuce, celery and pepper set out in a colander and get as dry as possible so that this salad doesn't become watered down.
