Are you still lurking out there somewhere? Have had you on my mind=we missed Jakey in June again this year because we were out of town.
I just saw an episode of Chopped Grill Masters. Are you a judge on that episode? She made a reference to having judged one of the contestants in a Southern IL competition and immediately thought of you!
DH will probably retire in the next 2-3 years-may have more time to pursue that judging thing then. Was wondering if you have eaten at Docs or judged him? One of our favorite places that is close by.

Mustang66lady--Jakey In June, our 9th year, was great again this year. We limited the amount of teams to 35, the weather was good and the contest went well.
I was a finals judge on the Pitmaster Series at the Big Pig Jig in Vienna, Georgia, about 4 years ago. They keep showing that series over & over, so it's been on many times. During the finals judging, one of the team presenters dropped a slab of ribs on the ground when he was serving the judges. I was sitting right there. If you ever happen to see it, there are 2 women & 2 men judging finals and I am the one with the short hair and the lime green vest.
Yes, we have eaten at Doc's and have known him and his wife, Susan, for many years.
May all of your BBQ be good.

Oh my goodness @bbqjudge I remember that happening! I so wish they would run those shows again as I always enjoyed watching them and this time I would know to especially watch for you!
Big Pig Jig, love it. How exciting it must have been to have been a judge for that competition!

I was so sure that was you on the Chopped episode the other night! I am going to have to watch for you on the show you mentioned. DH so wants to go thru the steps to be a judge. He has traveled all of his career but things have changed this past year. He plans on retiring in the next 2-3 years and is really interested in becoming a judge. We are going to show up at a Jakey in June at some point, God willing! Our lives have changed a great deal this past two or three months, so maybe next year will be "our year" to be able to attend!
Thank you so much for responding to this thread. I was hoping you were lurking somewhere. If you ever feel the urge, please join us on the PotSticker Soup thread-would love to have you there when you can join in.
