Original 7 layer salad recipe

Does anyone have a recipe for the original 7 layer salad made with lettuce, peas, and bacon.

I think the recipe also called for Miracle Whip.

I remember the salad my mom made came from an old church cookbook, which I cannot seem to find.  Smiley Sad

re:  layered salad

Not sure you could ever identify an "original" version of this salad.  At least once on this website last year, I saw a version offered by somebody.

There are many variations of this salad.  I, alone, have several of them saved  over the years, although I've never made it myself.

Paula Deen's version calls for 4 slices bacon, one 10-oz. package frozen peas, 1 cup shredded cheddar, 2 hard-cooked eggs chopped, 3 tablespoons mayonnaise, 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice, salt & pepper.

Another version calls for using sour cream or ranch dressing, 1 tablespoon white vinegar, thin-sliced red onion, cheddar or American cheese, and some minced fresh parsley.

You might want to check online at sites such as allrecipes.com or the Food Network website and select a version that suits your taste.

It also seems to me that you could design your own layers with lettuce, bacon, eggs, choice of dressing, etc.

@novamc1, there seems to be many variations out there.  I was browsing recipes  this morning - too overwhelming.  LOL

Paula's recipe sounds close to what I'm calling "original".

Thank you.

If you haven't already, one way to search for recipes of this type is to key in the words "English Pea Salad"............that should bring up something useful.  Good luck and good eating!

Thank you, @NameAlreadyTaken.

That's the recipe - I remember mixing sugar into the Miracle Whip.

Re: Original 7 layer salad recipe

I looked up 7 Layer Salad in one of my cookbooks and there were 3...all with different ingredients.

All of them had Lettuce, red onion, peas, cheese, bacon and Mayo.

One had bell pepper, one had celery and one had cauliflower as the other ingredient.  One had boiled eggs.

Just layer 7 veggies that you like!
