Sounds good, but it should be good. The bread has soaked up all the ground beef fat.

Thank you. Something disturbed me about this recipe but I couldn't put a finger on it. You hit the nail on the head.

Yeah, that thought is not a good thought for me. I'd just cook mine in a grill pan and lose the grease and make sure it is well done. When this recipe started I thought it was going to be eaten raw. . . but whatever, it is an interesting concept. Anyone going to post a picture?

Guess it depends on what you use. I use 97 lean beef and it ends up being 7 weight watcher points for the whole thing. Never been greasy for me. Sorry to have grossed you out lol

Not gross, but just thinking SOME burger meats would make a rather, shall we say "moist" dish! LOL!!!! If you had a bread machine some homemade cheese and herb bread would be a possibility here, or ONION bread. . .

Here is one of my favorites.......sort of along those same lines.

Take a loaf of french bread and slice horizontally down the middle. Then take each half and cut it in half......you now have 4 pieces of french bread. Set aside. Brown ground beef (I actually use ground white meat turkey). Add a can of Prego spaghetti sauce to the browned beef (and you can add whatever other seasonings you want to the mixture). Spread the mixture on each piece of french bread. Top that with slices of sliced mozarella cheese (I just use pre-sliced Kraft mozarella). Pop into pre-heated 350 degree oven until cheese is bubbly and melted. It's so good and so easy.

I used to do this also, but I added thin sliced onions, green peppers and mushrooms, and I used pizza sauce. When I was young my family never ever went out to eat and we didn't have anything but meat and potatoes. I didn't even know what pizza was until my teens. Then I had to improvise to have some at home.

It's so fun to reminisce about the foods we had as a child. Thanks for sharing, MrsButtercup!! The home recipes are the ones that nursed us back to health when nothing else seemed to sound good...

I figure the 3% fat can't be as bad as the meats that cook on a pizza?? or other recipes... Smiley Wink

Re: Old quick comfort recipe

I love to hear stories from the elderly. I find it interesting to learn about what they ate when they were little. Thanks for passing that on! I will have to ask my mom if she ever made/had this. I remember my mom making open faced broiled sandwiches that had just cheese and bacon on it and I believe they were on buns. All I know was, we loved them!

Oh boy I can get into that the way you do and the play with it for variety. Here comes some ""tired"" winter nights for good eating. My favorite word was soaked. Thanks!!

Re: Old quick comfort recipe

all I can see is all that grease dripping into the bread......I cant imagine being able to put it under the broiler long enough to get the beef cooked enough ......I'll pass on this one too.
