The pretzel crust is what does it for this - or any lime filling. I've made a few times now, you can make it the day before. Everyone has loved it, especially the guys!

Just saw you recipe. I had been thinking of what dessert I would bring to a get together at a friend's house, and I was planning to make a carrot cake and cream cheese frosting.
Well, this looks much easier, and I'll make this instead.
I will also make my own whipped cream because so many posters here gave me some greyt tips.
Besides, I think this is a bit more unusual.
Thanks you for posting.

@Flatbush , I hope you like the recipe! This is my very favorite key lime pie recipe and living in Florida, I've eaten a lot of bland, too sweet key lime pies. The recipe came from one of those little booklet cookbooks you see in tourist shops with all the recipes featuring key limes.
My niece has also made this pie using orange juice or lemon juice instead of key lime juice.

Was wondering if I need to use the juice that I squeeze from the limes? Or is the bottled juice as good?
Thank you.

@Flatbush , I so rarely see fresh Key limes, I almost always use Nellie & Joe's Key West lime juice from the grocery store. Comes out just fine with the bottled Key lime juice. I don't recommend using the bottled lemon juice, has a weird taste to it. If using lemon juice, I would squeeze fresh lemons. I've never tried using orange juice but I bet using frozen orange juice concentrate would work. Some may not know that Key limes are small, round, yellowish limes that are more sour than the regular green limes, so it takes a lot of Key limes to get enough of the juice.
And if the pie is green, it's not an authentic Key lime pie. Key lime pie is always a soft yellow color and not garnished with grated green lime rind.

My DH loves key lime pie and doesn't eat most other kinds of pies. I usually use the bottled key lime juice; can't recall the name of it but the bottle is large and the grocery store where i bought it for years closed last fall. I don't find actual key limes very often. Your recipe sounds great and similar to mine.
