Here my second try to post my recipe for the ingredient molasses. I hope you enjoy it. Gingerbread - 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup shortening, 2 eggs - beaten, 1 cup buttermilk (or soured sweet milk), 2 tsp soda, 1 cup molasses, 3 cups flour, 2 tsp cinnamon, 1 1/2 tsp ginger, 1 tsp cloves, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, 1 tsp salt. Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs. Dissolve soda in milk and add to mixture. Add molasses, spices, salt and flour. Bake in square pan for about 20 minutes at 365 degrees. May be served with whipped cream or lemon sauce. This recipe is from one of my first cookbooks I purchased in Savannah, Georgia in 1979 as a newly wed (1978). It has been a much used cookbook, Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House cookbook. Sorry GKelly I should have address RS as Ladies and Gentlemen. And by the way, thank you for asking for the recipe.
