Millionaire Pie

[ Edited ]

This pie has always been a prize in the south!  I imagine it's been loved everywhere else too. I ran into it as a teenager and couldn't get it into my file quickly enough!!!

Millionaire Pie

1 small container cool whip, thawed

Juice of one lemon

1 can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk

1 can Dole crushed pineapple, well drained

1 can mandrian oranges drained and cut in half

1/3 C green grapes, halved

1/3 C chopped pecans

1 Graham Cracker Crust

In large bowl, mix Eaglebrand Sweetened Condensed Milk with juice if one lemon.

Add pineapple, mandrian oranges, green grapes, and pecans and mix.

Fold in Cool Whip.

Pour into graham cracker crust.  Chill thouroughly, about 6 hours.

I like the more tart fruits with this.  Some people put in coconut, and I've heard of peaches, but canned peaches are too soft for me. Chopped cantaloupe and honeydew would be good, as would kiwi.  Strawberries would be good but they'd color the filling.

I do have a great fruit pizza with Cool Whip if anyone wants it.Smiley Happy

LOVE this!  Apricots?  Cherries?  Raspberries?  Those are my favorite fruits! You could also maybe make a graham cracker crust in a pan, pour the filling in without the fruit (or maybe just the pineapple?), then cut it in squares to top serve and top with fresh fruits sweetened a little to draw out the juices.  Thanks for this idea just when I needed something like that!  I haven't thought about this pie in years but mother made it a lot!

Thats not the Millionaire Pie I know and love.  Will see if I can find my recipe.

Here is the recipe I know and love.  No fruit except pineapple but has this decadent layer made of butter and 10X sugar.  It was made famous by the Furr's Cafeteria chain in the South.  People would go in there just for the pie.

Can't beat home-made from scratch banana  pudding!!

It's on my menu for Sunday

I use the recipe on the Nilla Vanilla wafer box.  Very simple but heavenly.

@software,Funny you mentioned banana pudding.  DH would do anything for that so I make a double recipe (it takes my 4 qt casserole) for Father's Day.  This pudding was always one of my "milk labs" in my foods classes.  Many of the students had only eaten the jello kind.  They were in love!Smiley Happy

@Kachina624 - I live in Dallas.  I've had that pie at the Furr's cafeteria here.

@vickie25 Yeah, it was very good wasn't it?  I heard our local Furr's closed.  The whole company has been teetering on the edge of bankruptcy for years.
