Melt in Your Mouth Sugar Cookie

[ Edited ]

This recipe was given to me by my boss's wife about 50+ years ago.  (That seems impossible!!) Her recipe listed butter and oleo----can you even buy oleo any more? It is not your typical sugar cookie like you would make at Christmas time that you roll out, bake, and then decorate.  But, it is good for a change.

Melt in Your Mouth Sugar Cookies

2 sticks butter

1 c. Mazola oil

1 c. sugar

1 c. powdered sugar

2 eggs

1 tsp. vanilla

4 ½ c. flour

1 tsp. soda

1 tsp. baking powder

Preheat oven to 350º.  Mix butter, oil, sugar, and powdered sugar until well mixed.  Add eggs and vanilla.  Add soda, baking powder, and flour.  (If the dough become too thick, stir the remaining flour in by hand.)

Chill (overnight is best).  Roll in balls about the size of walnuts and place on ungreased cookie sheet.  Flatten with bottom of glass that has been dipped in sugar.  (Colored sugar can be used for different holidays.) Bake for 10 minutes.  Let cool on sheet for at least 2 minutes, then remove to rack to cool completely.

Another name for the recipe is "Amish Sugar Cookies."  It's sort of a combination of a sugar cookie and a Snickerdoodle.

@wismiss Oleo is just margarine.  My aunt used to make these cookies a lot!

@Rosebud 06   Per my search engine.....

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Bake for 9-11 minutes, making sure not to let them brown!

Re: Melt in Your Mouth Sugar Cookie

This looks like a great recipe.  I plan on topping them with this lemon frosting:

1 cup butter

1 tbsp sour cream

1 tbsp grated lemon zest

5 cups powdered sugar

1/4 cup lemon juice

Mix butter, sour cream, and lemon zest in bowl using electric mixer until thick and creamy.  Mix in powdered sugar and lemon juice until creamy and spreadable.

Re: Melt in Your Mouth Sugar Cookie

Yes, they would melt in your mouth because they are heavy on powdered sugar. Topping them with lemon icing would make a perfect summer treat out on the patio. Thanks, @deepwaterdotter  @wismiss
